RESPONDING TO SOCIAL SECURITY MISMATCH LETTERS: Last year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) redesigned its mismatch policy to reduce the number of letters it sends, in light of the overwhelming amount of mismatches being found, Patrick Moody, attorney for Barsamian, Saqui & Moody, in Fresno, Calif., told ALERT. “Agricultural employers in particular, however, continue to receive letters due to the frequency of undocumented ‘immigrants’ in the agricultural workforce,” Moody said. Mismatch letters no longer warn employers of possible Internal Revenue Service (IRS) penalties for failure to provide accurate Social Security numbers, but the SSA continues to provide mismatch information to the IRS. “Under its current policies, the IRS has indicated it will not fine employers if incorrect information on an IRS W-2 Form is based on a properly executed W-4 form, and the employer has shown ‘due diligence’ in trying to obtain correct information from the relevant employee,” Moody said. “Under the new mismatch policy, employers must reply within 60 days after being notified of a mismatch.” Employers should never assume an employee with a reported mismatch is an undocumented, or illegal, immigrant and should never fire an employee because of a mismatch letter. According to Moody, employers who do so can face discrimination charges.

Do you have any idea the ripple effect it would have if we kicked out all the illegal immigrants. Certain sectors would be screaming for cheap unskilled labor. You'd walk into the supermarket and end up paying an ungodly ammount for simple things like grapes, tomatoes etc. They fill jobs most native workers wouldnt do for the pay illegals get.
