This goes beyond the individual business, it's about the gov offloading jobs via Bush so things get more lean at home.

BTW, I would rather companies go bankrupt, turn their assets over to their creditors and teh gov, and let the gov handle things than some greedy, corrupt corporate scumbag.

You're pissed at the government's handling of things (first paragraph), then say you'd rather see the government handle things (second paragraph). You managed to take two completely different stances, in two paragpraphs, each being one sentence long.

This is a contrary argument set that would make a lawyer proud!

I'm sure he _does_ have a clue how to make businesses more profitable, which is one reason he was nominated. From what I've read of him so far, he is good at streamlining companies so they make more money. This means, in the case of Kellogg, laying people off. Hence the title of the thread. I don't feel sorry for Kellogg's executives or shareholders, but I do wish the people that will be laid off luck in finding new jobs. If he applies such a philosophy to other US companies, then those companies may improve their bottom line - but more people will be out of work.

You are right. Those dam companies need to pay higher than market wages, loose money (no profits) and go out of buiness. That sure as hell will help the workers:S Dam, I don't understand the line of thought that profitable companies are evil?? ......and I do understand billvon, I was in a union for nearly 20 years! I do know the labor side and mentality! Gettin out was the best thing that happened to me......

My company pays higher than market wages, keeps people on basically forever, and we're doing pretty well. Perhaps there's more to running a company than laying people off and paying them as little as possible, eh?

>Dam, I don't understand the line of thought that profitable companies are evil??

They're not. Profiting does not make a company evil. You can profit and not lay many people off; you can lay lots of people off and fail. Which company would you rather work for? (And yes, there are far more examples than those two.)

You know, I agree with you. But there are times when people will be laid off for more reasons than just profit. But again, I do agee with what you said above but the earlier statements are misleading IMHO
