Education v Cost

Recommended Posts

At what point is the price of education too high?
i.e. Wharton Law $151k

It seems like there should be some point, you're better off taking accounting at community college and opening a sandwich shop or buying a house.

I suppose it depends on what you want to do for a living. Your choice. My medical education debt is pretty frightening too....I sure as hell wouldn't want to be an accountant though, or a social worker....

If you're willing to work for a big law firm, it works out well pretty quickly. The Firm might even pay the loans. All they want is your soul and 80 billable hours a week.

Doesn't work nearly so well from a dollar standpoint if you want to work for yourself, but you have the potential of a really powerful network.

Medical school, otoh, I don't see a great return on value. Outside of specialties, salaries are flat, costs are skyrocketing, and the life expectancy and quality of life suck. To those who enter with noble reasons, good for you. For those looking to score bucks, HAHA!

bumper sticker wisdom: The cost of education is not as high as the cost of ignorance.

BTW, there are LOTS of merit scholarship opportunities around for good students.

I just paid-off my student loan; I sent the last payment in 3-weeks ago. Borrowing money, even for school, should be taken very seriously. I owe on a mortgage...but that is it, and the payments now are roughly 50/50, principal and interest, and my credit cards all have zero balances...my FICO score was 788 six months ago...maybe 800+ now.
