Muenkel 0 #26 November 20, 2004 I am what you would call a 'social smoker'. I enjoy smoking every now and then, but not regularly. I don't want the smoke in my home, in my car, on a plane or in a restaurant. However, it does not bother me in a bar. If it does, I can leave. I think in the case of restaurants, I am all for banning smoking. As for bars, I would leave it up to the owners to decide if they want a smoking or non-smoking establishment. BTW, I know a lot of people who like to have a cigarette every now and then. I don't believe that frequency is doing any harm to them. That's why I say, give them a place to relax, have a drink and enjoy a smoke. _________________________________________ Chris
AggieDave 6 #27 November 20, 2004 I fully understand the dangers of smoking and being around smoke. Ok, you're playing the spin game, good job, lets continue. I'm a professional skydiver, I make my money by teaching people how to skydive and taking people on joy ride skydives. There is danger but I still choose to work for a DZ. I could still work in IT sitting behind a desk infront of a computer. Then again, a study recently showed that working at a computer for long hours drastically increases your chances of getting glacoma, never mind the problems with my wrists, neck and back due to sitting at a computer for 50+ hrs a week. Every single job has its dangers, if people can't deal with that, then they're going to have a hard time dealing with life. That's the perfect liberal voter. Can't deal with real life, can't deal with responsibility and wants the government to fix it all. No wonder social security is a failure...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

That's great. But even if you decide that you're OK with the risk of jumping a BASE rig when you do AFF, you're not going to be able to do it because of that pesky government. Even if it's only your life you are risking, and even if you understand the risks and are fine with them - you still need a reserve per Uncle Sam. Now, if you want to go off and do BASE away from a DZ, no problem. But skydiving in the US requires a certified two-canopy system, and I think that intrusive, horrible, can't-deal-with-risks rule has, in general, been good for the sport - even if it means you can't take the (slight) risk of jumping a BASE rig while teaching AFF. (Or working in a bar full of smoke.) >That's the perfect liberal voter. Can't deal with real life, can't deal >with responsibility and wants the government to fix it all. I'm a liberal voter, and I ran the student program at Brown Field for two years. Didn't get the government to fix a single thing! Although I am pressing for new canopy-loading ratings attached to licenses. >No wonder social security is a failure... The republicans have been in charge for four years, and it's worse than ever. One might conclude that there's really not much difference between democrats and republicans. Why solve anything today, when you can put it off until after the next election? justaflygirl 0 #29 November 20, 2004 Its a law in Florida as well; I voted for it 4 years ago and it passed. I have alot of friends who smoke, and I could plainly see thier side, however...having two sons who were born premature and had lung problems at birth were enough for me. Smoke in restaurants can not read the signs that say "smoking area", nor does it stop at the walls that were intended to seperate the smoking section from the non smoking section. It is nice to know that I can goto any restaurant with my children and know that I do not have to worry about finding the seat the farthest away from the smoking section in a feeble attempt to protect my kids from the invisible clouds of smoke. I am speaking for the health and well being of my kids by doing this. Until they are old enough to make their own decisions about their health, it is my duty and I shouldnt have to sacrafice a night out ont he town with my family b/c my sons were born with health issues that can be severely aggrevated by 2nd hand smoke. gordy 0 #30 November 22, 2004 Sorry have to agree with Dave on this one. Quote And YOU don't have to go to that bar. You can go to a non-smoking bar, it is your choice.
riggerrob 643 #31 November 22, 2004 Why smoke tobacco? I can understand why people smoke marijuana, even did it a bit myself. However, I never got past the sore throat and coughing ... never felt the "rush" when smoking tobacco. A perplexed non-smoker.
