As many as you can conceal, but the number is technically unlimited.

And of any handgun caliber, for instance you can't carry a sawed off shotgun under a trench coat. Oh, you can't carry fully auto weapons either.


Anyways, after seeing how the Ban Knives thread blew up, I figured this would make a good handful of people foam at the mouth about Texas.

hehe - not really. See none of us are that worried about what you do in your own country. We're quite happy for you to do as you like and are willing to support you in it - it's your home after all, why would any sane individuals want to interfere with that?

Teehee! Although I'm not infavour of having the same laws over here (Britain). I don't care what Americans/Texans want with regards to weapons over there and I think most Brits feel the same way?

Why do they have to be concealed? Surely it'd be more of a detterent(sp?) if the crims could see you are packing?

Not quite.

Lets say you're a perp (criminal) and you want to knock over the gas station on the corner. You walk in and 5 people are there, no one might have a gun, but one might and all 5 might. Who knows if they do or not, do you want to take the chance?

There's a reason that violoent crime has dropped 50% in Texas since the passing of the CHL law in 1995, it scared the bejesus out of would be criminals. Since they know if they try to use a weapon (knife or gun) and try to threaten physical harm, they might be shot and killed by any "normal" (read: non-cop) around them that might be armed, or might not be armed.
