Today at Austwitz

Recommended Posts

I am on holiday in Poland and while visiting Cracovia i had to pay a visit to the concentration camp in Auswitz. Not nice, i can tell you that. There is a quote from Hitler writen on a wall that was very insighting. (I will post a picture when i return)

"I will provide a cause for the war, wether true or not is irrelevant for propaganda purposes" Adolf Hitler

I am not sure wether it was Hitler who said it or Nostradamus, but just in case it was the latest there is still hope November the 2nd.

Let the bashing begin!, i will not be able to read it till November 3rd

Peace.

Wow,

A thread that self-destructed upon its own creation.

As an aside, I am so proud to have been born an American. I am so happy I can actually vote on Nov. 2.

WWII: A war we had much less business entering.

Glad we did tho. All our European "friends" would be speaking German.

I don't speak much German.

I am an American.

Did I mention that I can and will vote on Nov. 2?

Totally agree. I have the deepest respect for everyone from that generation who fought with the Allied forces. My Granddad's best friend in the war and whom he served side by side with was a French-Canadian nicknamed "Tet." He spoke of him often.

Hmmm,

So Japan bombs the US. Check.

The US declares war on Japan the next day. Check.

So remind me again why instead of simply fighting our aggressors, we also went to Europe to fight the Germans and Italians?

Correct! Dec. 11 Germany and Italy declared war on the US.

But does a declaration of war by countrys several thousand miles away, which are already embroiled in war on every front, mean we must send troops to fight those countries?

Remember, the Germans and Italians had done nothing against the US at this point.

It's not surprising you don't know the actual facts.

Congressional Declaration of War on Japan: December 8, 1941

Germany declared War on the US: December 11, 1941

Now, why do you think Germany declared war on the US on that date? Do you really think it had nothing to do with the US declaration of War on Japan?

Congressional Declaration of War
on Germany

December 11, 1941

The President's Message
To the Congress of the United States:

On the morning of Dec. 11 the Government of Germany, pursuing its course of world conquest, declared war against the United States. The long-known and the long-expected has thus taken place. The forces endeavoring to enslave the entire world now are moving toward this hemisphere. Never before has there been a greater challenge to life, liberty and civilization. Delay invites great danger. Rapid and united effort by all of the peoples of the world who are determined to remain free will insure a world victory of the forces of justice and of righteousness over the forces of savagery and of barbarism. Italy also has declared war against the United States.

I therefore request the Congress to recognize a state of war between the United States and Germany, and between the United States and Italy.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

The War Resolution
Declaring that a state of war exists between the Government of Germany and the government and the people of the United States and making provision to prosecute the same.

Whereas the Government of Germany has formally declared war against the government and the people of the United States of America:

Therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that the state of war between the United States and the Government of Germany which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the government to carry on war against the Government of Germany; and to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States

Because a declaration of war on japan automatically meant a declaration of war on the other participants....

[helps taking foot out of mouth]and the word automatically would have meant that they did not need to declare war against the US did it? Yet they did. It is a fact, regardless of motivation, they took a pen, a piece of paper and wrote, "dear US, we declare war on your ass", it was not so automatic as you can see.[/helps put foot back where it belongs]:D:D:D

Yep.

Sounds like Germany and Italy was a pretty big threat to the US, although they had done nothing but sign a piece of paper saying they were at war with us.

Congress gave the President some awesome powers to go to war. The Congress was certainly behind the President. The Congress also gave the President the power "to reorganize government agencies, establish censorship, seize alien-owned property and award contracts without competitive bidding."

We even put our own citizens in concentration camps, just in case.

We won that war after several years at the price of hundreds of thousands of young American lives. We stayed to rebuild Japan and 1/2 of Germany through several decades. We still maintain substantial forces in each.

It's rather simple. OK Japan attacked us in Dec 7, 1941, a few days later Italy and Germany declared war on us. Also remember Germany, Italy and Japan made up the Axis powers. Luckily for us and Britain Hitler was a f-ing moron and attacked Russia a few months before Pearl. Sometimes I wonder 'what-if' Hitler did not launch Barbarosa and Japan did not attack in 1941 what the World would look like now.

The two of me?

Anyway, if you sign a piece of paper with two of your friends pledging alligence to each, and then you punch me in the face, why would I have to start fighting your buddies, if they've not done a thing to me yet?

What's that piece of paper got to do with me?
