Deuce 1 #76 October 19, 2004 Well, Paul, the argument I was making was regarding voting/attendance record. On that specific issue the President cannot be compared to a Senator because he vetoes or passes the work of congress. As to being on the job, we provide our presidents a magnificent support structure to be on the job anywhere. We do not provide that structure to Senators and congressmen. Senators have to vote in the chamber, so they have attendance records. Presidents don't. Presidents, whether they are George Bush or Bill Clinton ride in a symbol of our nation out to disaster areas and parades and hold hands with citizens. At all times they have the ability to govern. It can't be compared to the duties of Senators, again, regardless of their party. The constitutional duties you list can be performed by the President anywhere. Actually, even better at places like Camp David. No apology necessary. You whiffed on your attempted bitch slap. Being so pissed is putting you off your game. penniless 0 #78 October 20, 2004 QuoteHmmm, also, somewhere along the line, didn't GWB say his number one priority was to fight terrorism and make America safer? Wasn't it also to catch OBL (Sept 2001), before it became no priority at all (March 2002) which he then denied (last week's debate). And it was also to reform Social Security (August 2000), which he then didn't do in four years of having a friendly Congress. But now it's his priority again. I think it's called "flip flopping". storm1977 0 #81 October 20, 2004 QuoteDoncha love it that when the President is out of the Oval "he's still working", but any Senator out of DC is automatically not? I would wager a guess that both Kerry and GWB haven't been doing a lot of real work in DC of late. Both have been campaigning out of town at almost the exact same rate. The fact is that the President can and does do his job remotely. Even on Vacation he/she has meetings every morning and is briefed on a host of topics. He can and does make calls to his advisors and his job is still being done. A senator does not have that liberty. THe Senators sole purpose is to represent his state and vote on Bills important to the people he represents.... When was the last time Kerry actually did his Job???? People of MA, you are paying his salary after all.... What is he doing? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
