This is the area where the contractors are now hiding out because they are scared to walk/drive the streets because they could be kidnapped and beheaded. And in other news, another American was killed by another IED today outside the green zone. _______________________________________ Blasts Kill Seven in Baghdad's Green Zone By NADIA ABOU EL-MAGD, Associated Press Writer BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents penetrated Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone and set off bombs at a market and a popular cafe Thursday, killing seven people, including two Americans, the U.S. military said, in a bold attack on the compound housing the U.S. and Iraqi government headquarters. The U.S. military said the bombs appeared to have been "hand-carried" into the zone. If so, it would be the first time insurgents have successfully infiltrated and set off bombs in the heart of the U.S.-Iraqi leadership of the country. The attack raised fears over security in the compound — where the U.S. Embassy and Iraqi government offices are located — and underscored militants' ability to strike in the capital even as U.S.-Iraqi forces are carrying out a new offensive to suppress them in other parts of the country. A thick column of black smoke rose over the central Baghdad neighborhood after the blasts. A U.S. military statement said seven people were killed in the two blasts, including two Americans.
