falxori 0 #1 October 7, 2004 a series of blasts tonight in the sinai desert by the red sea (egypt) in resorts mostly used by israelies (especially now, since its a holiday here). the body count is rising and israeli emergency forces have entered egypt (after a lot of bureaucracy) to help with the search and rescue efforts (a part of the hotel has collapsed). a lot of the facts are still unknown at this point, but it doesnt look good... o reuters "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." Michele 1 #2 October 8, 2004 Ori, just from your perspective...does this crossing the border affect things? Could this go "international" I guess I mean? I haven't heard much on the news about it yet, but will Egypt get involved? And how? Damn. This is bad. You're in my thoughts. Edit: I've been thinking about this. Hamas and Hezbollah don't usually cross the borders, as far as I can tell. It's not "normal" procedures. But a week ago or so AQ's #2 Ziman Al Zarquari, on his tape, said something to the effect of "go ahead and strike when and where able..." It is also more their style to attack at resorts, and Israel has been a named target for a while now. Could this have been a triple car bomb thing from AQ? And Afghanistan is having elections tomorrow. I hope it stays quiet, but I don't think it will. Damn again, but for different reasons this time... falxori 0 #3 October 8, 2004 its too soon to tell who is behind it and maybe we'll never know for sure. its not the first time these things have "crossed the border" (embassy in argentina, hotel and plane in kenya, and more ) and hamas hezbollah and others do cross the borders. but it can be (and even likely) AQ, they've been trying top get a piece of the action here too. this area is far from any major city in egypt and currently there are only israeli forces there (it took a lot of time to clear the paperwork and firefighters were sent back to get their passprots... ) will egypt get involved? in what? hopefully they'll do more to stop the endless shipments of arms crossing the borders. Nah, they're only blowing up Israeli vacationers, so the Arab world won't give a shit.
