jdhill 0 #152 October 7, 2004 QuoteWell, we now know that he WAS complying. Even Bush's appointee says so. The inspectors agree that there are no stockpiles. Bu, even according to the UN, there was not a verifiable accounting of their destruction, which was required by the UN... The UN inspectors could not account for where they went... they (Iraq) say they destroyed them, but with SH's track record, should we have taken his word? We now know their not there, but we may not have known that otherwise...All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

This was a real shit bag (to use some colorful Peaceful Jeffrey terminology) that we were dealing with. Correction: The world was dealing with.
nigel99 616 #154 October 7, 2004 Not at all - I am saying that Iraq was NOT an "imminent threat" either to you or us. I am saying and have said many times that inspections WITH the US forces on the border were working. Prior to the war I oppossed the timing of it - I wanted the UN inspectors to have the time they asked for - only 2 results would have come out of that - Saddam obstructed and the UN agree to attack, inspectors uncover that we have been duped for 12 yrs and he actually hasn't got any weapons.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. Maybe you should work for the government if their intelligence sucks so bad and your instincts and intelligence doesn't?

kallend 2,146 #157 October 7, 2004 QuoteQuoteIrrelevant to the issue at hand. No-one has criticized Blix or Baroudi or Kay or Duelfer or accused them of corruption. Another lame attempt at distraction. Is it? The organization that you tout as being the authority for international law? Credibility? Why was Bush so anxious to get a UN resolution? You want it both ways - UN approval for things Bush wanted to do, and use the (apparent but not actual) failure of Iraq to comply with UN resolutions as an excuse for invasion, but otherwise piss on the UN.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
rhino 0 #158 October 7, 2004 QuoteWhy was Bush so anxious to get a UN resolution? So arm chair quarterbacks wouldn't say "You didn't pass the global test" or "why didn't you use diplomacy?" or "you shouldn't have went into Iraq without utilizing the UN first".... But that wasn't accomplished was it? Arm chair quarterbacks are coming out of the woodworks.. Most of them never had the balls to serve their country to begin with.. Most have never run for public office.. But all of them have smelly assholes... I mean opinions.. Rhino
nigel99 616 #159 October 7, 2004 jeez dude chill out a bit. One thing that this Iraq war did teach me - is NEVER to trust the media at all. I have resorted to reading original reports whenever I can as oppossed to newspaper commentaries etc and it is remarkable how "different" the two can be. Now part of that process is that I have a PDF copy of the September dossier produced by the british government NOWHERE does it state that there was an imminent threat - it was media waffle.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. SkyDekker 1,465 #160 October 7, 2004 These guys crack me up...... The UN is completely fucking useless, nobody in their right fucking mind listens to them. Bunch of fucking morons. Well. obviously we were right and just invading Iraq. I know we didn't find any WMDs, but you do realize he didn't comply with UN demands for 12 years. pajarito 0 #161 October 7, 2004 QuoteWhy was Bush so anxious to get a UN resolution? Necessary evil. Although they've shown themselves (UN) to be incredibly fucked up in so many ways over the years, they are still viewed by the civilized world as being the concensus of world opinion. However, when they demonstrate weakness and show that they have no influence for enforcement to back up their mandates, actions have to be taken. It reminds me of the phrase I was always so accustomed to hearing, "Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!"
