Kennedy 0 #26 September 30, 2004 QuoteNader, in my opinion, if he really wanted to get something done, should have struck a deal with the Democrats. He should have said something like, "Ok, I won't run this time, but if you win you have to make me head of the CPSC." Nader wants to run the College Park Skydiving Crew? Oh jeez, I better call Dave and let him know his presidency is in danger. Really, it's not ringing a bell. Kennedy 0 #28 September 30, 2004 Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Gotcha. Thanks. Can't believe I forgot one of the bureaucracies that wanted to ban guns as an unsafe product, but we'll leave that to another thread. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
wmw999 2,583 #29 September 30, 2004 And, of course, as soon as one bad decision is made, the entire beaurocracy should be trashed, and all other decisions become wrong by association. Isn't that how it works? And I'm quite sure that manufacturers would police themselves without the CPSC. Kennedy 0 #30 September 30, 2004 No, the CPSC should not be trashed. It seems to do a fine job overseeing most consumer goods. However, you a very wrong in your thoughts. WHen bureaucrats show they can't be trusted, you have to look to someone who can. SAAMI shows just how wrong you are. Manufacturers do just that. edit:QuoteThe Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute is an association of the nation's leading manufacturers of sporting firearms, ammunition, and components. Since being founded in 1926, SAAMI has been actively involved in the publication of industry standards, coordination of technical data, and the promotion of safe and responsible firearms use. SAAMI currently publishes more than 700 voluntary standards related to firearm and ammunition quality and safety.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
wmw999 2,583 #31 September 30, 2004 Some manufacturers do. I've heard of SAAMI. I'll bet there are gun manufacturers who don't, just as there are drug makers who are more and less honest, and everyone else. And not every company is an Enron. TomAiello 26 #33 September 30, 2004 QuoteI would like to know, if you voted for the Libertarian party, did you even bother to research the others? Do you know what they represent? Why didn't you vote for another party? Nope. I voted Libertarian because (a) I've done lots of research on the various parties, (b) I'm a registered Libertarian, (c) I often vote Libertarian even in "real life" when I am allowed to choose the Republican, and (d) I doubt that any of those other parties are going to be more Libertarian than the LP. TomAiello 26 #35 September 30, 2004 [replyI'm a skydiver. If I registered as a Libertarian, how many votes do you think I'd get from the south? I dunno. But you'd probably get some from the Bay Area. Sunnyvale, California is the city in the US with the highest percentage of Libertarian voters.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
