Think TWICE before getting your FLU shot!!!

None of your examples are vaccines which work on the rather simple notion of causing an immune system reaction.

The problem with is that sometimes the immune system goes a little bit into hyperdrive, not only attacking the virus, but the person's own body. That's where the problem lies in vaccines. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I'd rather take my chances with the flu than risk an autoimmune issue. If I was immunocomprimised (anciently old, etc) that would be a different story.

Sure, but talking about the polio vaccine and Thalimide in the same sentence is pushing it.

The flu vaccine doesn't contribute the same clear gains as those required childhood vaccinations. Those virtually eliminated certain diseases, though because of people (as you would prefer to) taking advantage of the rarity of the disease and foregoing it, some are creeping back into the picture.

Yeah, I do believe you and I both are mad cow disease free... :P

You'd think they'd give us a test to see if we're clean or something... I tried 3 times to donate and they turned me away... :(

But ya never know, I may just go CrAzY one day !!! :S

And they wonder why the blood supply is always so limited. Just go down the list of reasons they won't accept a donor. But....a lack of faith in the system would have consequences too.

and this year if your healthy they are asking you to fore go it if you usually get one..

apparently the UK supplier for 50% of the US's flu vaccinations has contamination issues... there is no shortage for children (its a different vaccine) but they want healthy adults to skip it to leave more for those at higher risk...

i wonder if this means the military wont be pushing it they way they did every year when i was in??
