Gravitymaster 0 #1 September 15, 2004 Ready ????? Fasten your seatbelts. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/9/14/223720.shtml QuoteTuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 10:35 p.m. EDT Rep. Cox Requests House Rathergate Probe A senior House Republican has formally requested a congressional investigation into an apparent criminal conspiracy to rig the 2004 presidential election by forging records from President Bush's National Guard service and having them reported by CBS News. In a letter Tuesday night to Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the Subcommittee of Telecommunications and the Internet, Rep Christopher Cox, R-Calif., called for a probe into what he described as "the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election." Cox wrote: "Despite the growing abundance of the evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents. USA Today possesses the same documents, obtained independently from a person representing them to be authentic, and likewise is refusing to disclose his identity." The letter, first reported by radio host Hugh Hewitt, concluded: "Given the shortness of time between now and the election which the apparent fraud is meant to influence, and the even shorter time before Congress is scheduled to adjourn, I strongly urge that the Subcommittee move with all deliberate speed to uncover the facts." Gravitymaster 0 #3 September 15, 2004 Considering all reasonable people have by now concluded the documents were forged, CBS and U.S.A. Today no longer have an obligation to shield the identity of the person(s) who gave them the documents. The curious part of this story now becomes why they are refusing to disclose this information. This investigation could get interesting.
peacefuljeffrey 0 #4 September 15, 2004 I just read in an early Wednesday paper that the secretary for the dude who is supposed to have written the memos -- the woman who would have typed them -- says that she did NOT type THOSE memos, and knows she did not because they used terms and typography that were not in use by the Guard. She says that the gist of the text was possibly "accurate," but that these appear to be memos copied from originals. (Which leads one to inquire what might have been changed or reworded when the copying was done.) Either way, Rather and CBS and CNN have said they are GENUINE -- and since there is about 0.01% chance that they are in fact genuine, Rather's word (his INSISTENCE) on the authenticity of the documents is worth SHIT. peacefuljeffrey 0 #6 September 15, 2004 QuoteAgreed. Do you think Danny-boy will be fired or forced to resign b/c of this? No, neither. I think that this is the status quo for corporate news: do as much lying and slanting and biasing on behalf of leftism as you can, and when caught, deny until it blows over. The public will forget, and you can continue doing the same thing. I predict nothing will change. How much backlash against Rather do you sense is going on at this point? Me, I sense none. I think the leftist media will circle the wagons around him and he'll be largely left alone, except for Rush Limbaugh's justifiable rants. If CBS Nightly News ratings get low enough, and eventually they will, Blather will be gone. But in the meantime, I bet he gets an actual bump in the ratings over the memo scandal. Everyone will want to see the freak deliver the news. . . =(_8^(1)
peregrinerose 0 #10 September 15, 2004 Naaah, he won't be fired. Anchors are just faces, typically they mindlessly read the telepromter and don't do their own research. Granted he probably supported all this happy horse shit, but the blame will be pawned off on the background people if it is proven forgery. jdhill 0 #13 September 16, 2004 Rather made more comments last night about the story... the gist was, its not about the documents its about the story that the documents represent... What he doesn't seem to get is that without the documents, his "story" has no credibility.
