jumper03 0 #1 September 9, 2004 Anyone had a chance to play with this yet? Impressions? How does it stack up against the venerable 1911? Jump ---------------Scars remind us that the past is real
miked10270 0 #2 September 9, 2004 Is it just me? Or does the mechanisms look VERY reminiscent of the Walther PPK / P-38? Mike. jumper03 0 #3 September 9, 2004 Well, the ad I'm looking at right now says it's "a completely new .45 Auto caliber pistol, based upon the proven Ruger P97..." MSRP of $548.00Scars remind us that the past is real
miked10270 0 #4 September 9, 2004 Hmmm... Let's see. Recoil with tilt barrel. Single or double action with a long pull on double action. Trigger to sear link along the left side of the gun with the link broken at the sear end by the slide going back. drop hammer safety on the slide. The stripped view of it looks strangely familiar... Here's the Ruger... Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. Prenait la pisse hors du FrançaisCanadiens méridionaux puisqu'avant lui à la mode. miked10270 0 #6 September 9, 2004 Maybe you should look at the Walther P-99 - 9mm or .40"s&w... and it even comes in Macho Black! http://www.carl-walther.de/englisch/defense/defense-36.html http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg14-e.htm http://www.usagunsales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=usagunsales&Product_Code=DAV-120206&Product_Count=&Category_Code= http://www.usagunsales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=usagunsales&Product_Code=DAV-120212&Product_Count=&Category_Code= Mike. [troll mode off] hehe... from the ad- "The world has seen a lot of changes since 1911. Apparently some designers believe that time has stood still. While classics certainly have their place, serious sidearms require the benefit of modern thinking, combining the best of the old with the best of the new" bolding is mine. AggieDave 6 #10 September 9, 2004 The old 1911 sucks compared to modern arms. The new 1911 based weapons kickass, Kimber, Baer, Wilson, etc. I'm still a huge Glock fan, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Huh? Them's fightin' words! They're pretty darned serious if you're a criminal or enemy and you're staring down the barrel. The Mauser bolt-action design for rifles is even older. And yet it is still the most common bolt-action design used in hunting rifles, even to this day. The Mauser brothers done good. AggieDave 6 #12 September 9, 2004 QuoteSome things are just so near perfection, that hundreds of years of technology can't improve upon them. Nearly 100 years of advancement in the machining processes sure as hell improves them though! Not to mention new technologies in materials.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
JohnRich 4 #13 September 9, 2004 QuoteNearly 100 years of advancement in the machining processes sure as hell improves them though! Not to mention new technologies in materials. I agree with that. It was gun-makers that refined industrial machinery to the point that parts could be made interchangeable, rather than custom hand-fitted only for one particular unit.
