everyone shut up about viet nam

Recommended Posts

damn, people won't shut up about viet nam. Picking on Kerry, now they're picking on Bush.

hey why don't we focus on the issues & the future for a change?? how much time are we spending on viet nam vs how much time are we actually discussing stuff that matters now??

OK, how many posts will it be before some lame-ass tries to revive a viet nam argument once again?? I predict: within three posts.

The reason people continue top bring up Vietnam is because Kerry continues to lie about it.

If Kerry came out from the beginning and came clean I would agree with you. But because he continues to lie about many aspects of his military career it is a valid discussion to continue to bring up until the truth is uncovered.

Because some people just can't let go of the past.

I would -much- rather hold a conversation about the war going on NOW, one in which our leaders could do something, than one that ended about 30 years ago that NOBODY can do anything about.

If Kerry had anything of substance with regard to issues that he could discuss, don't you think he wouldn't have BOLTED from the GATE boasting of his Vietnam service accolades?!

I posted this a while back and thought it might be pertinent here.

It is a response to someone's question like "Who cares what Kerry did 30 years ago?"

Quote

I'll tell you who cares... the people that went to Vietnam voluntarily. The people who went to Vietnam when they were drafted. The people who saw what was happening while they were there and believed they were fighting for the right reasons. The people who did incredibly heroic things for their fellow soldiers and people of South Vietnam and didn't get medals for it, or did get medals and never spoke of it again because it was their job. The families of people who never came home might care that someone is being touted as a war hero, when all they have is a framed set of medals to remind them of their loved one. Yeah, people DO care... whether you like it or not.

Somewhere in the middle of the Dem effort to make Kerry the great leader and war hero and the efforts of the SBVFT, there is the truth. I'd love to know what it is so we can at least focus on the fact that Kerry has no real policy plans or even reasonable ideas for them.

Oh, hello again!

Taken from another thread quoting CNN

Despite the perception among some observers that this is an election driven by issues, more of those interviewed said that the leadership qualities and personal characteristics of the two candidates were more important than their stands on the issues.

Then none of them should be elected

Botellines, we already knew that. We have no one else to choose from.

Do you believe that any of your country's politicians deserved to be elected? They are the same all over the world.

We'll let it go when those who sent hate mail to the families of GIs killed or POW in Vietnam come forth and apologize like Jane Fonda did.

Sorry JR we don't have time for that lets not confuse the issue with the facts we don't have time for that Lets talk about who did what 35 yr's ago.

Twiddle Dee, Twiddle Dum, one of these guys will be our president after november . Then what ????

Vietnam won't go away until there are no longer politicians that were draft eligible in the 70s.

I thought it might fade sooner as the GOP seems to have no one besides McCain that served, but suddenly the Democrats have a lineup of veterens, and see dodgers on the other side for a change. It's funny how the dirt of Bush is coming out now - had Gore's campaign done their digging better, it could have made the difference. Now as an incumbent, he's probably safe from it.

Thats true, and future politicians who never experienced war will find it easy to send our young men and women off to war unless of course, some are experiencing it now.
