rhino 0 #1 September 8, 2004 Interesting how things change when ones home country is attached and innocent people are killed. MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russia has offered $10 million for information that helps "neutralize" two Chechen rebel leaders, and a military official said Moscow was prepared to strike at terrorists around the world. "About half of the 32 terrorists have been identified and we have not yet discovered anyone from Chechnya," he said. The comment was a clear effort to back up the Kremlin's claim that last week's attack was not a result of Russia's actions in Chechnya.
mr2mk1g 10 #6 September 8, 2004 I’d just like to point out that outside of the US no one is suggesting any direct links between Beslan and Al Qaeda. I think that is something you might look at taking on board. The only evidence to link the two (so far) is the brutality of the attack and the fact that some of the hostage takers were Arabs. Neither fact is terribly surprising given the history of the Chechen conflict and would be likely to exist anyway, even in the absence of any Al Qaeda link. Just remember that it would serve the US administration well if this was an Al Quaeda attack… maybe even the Russian administration too. So don’t just immediately jump on the idea that this was linked to Al Qaeda. Instead use your impartiality, and your intelligence. Look for evidence backing up newspaper claims and question what you are fed.

mr2mk1g 10 #10 September 8, 2004 Terrorist? - definitely Islamic? - some of them almost certainly, there’s a high proportion of Muslims in the population in that part of the world. All of them? - we don't know yet, not all Chechens are Muslim. Fundamentalist? - again we don't know. It's certainly not Chechnya’s stated goal. Nor is it Ingushetia’s if it turns out to be more to do with them. They are separatists not fundamentalists, ie they're not trying to set up a fundamentalist Islamic government, just their own government independent of Moscow. TheAnvil 0 #15 September 8, 2004 Parking lots. Fields of glass. Leaves of grass....sticks of dirt. I don't think turning the entire province of Chechnya into a parking lot would solve anything. These folks still hate the Soviets/Russkis for the massive deporations to Siberia in the 40's/50's. The problems there, like problems many other places in the world, stem from actions taken during the Cold War. Unsure as to a solution myself. I'd have to think about it. In the meantime, I think that tequila shooters for everyone would be a step in the right direction. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! JohnRich 4 #18 September 8, 2004 QuoteThe Chechens have stooped to a new low. I find it hard to imagine anyone who could support what they did last week. That's what I can't understand about this whole terrorism thing. They've committed so many horrible atrocities. To name just a few: 1) Sept. 11, 2001 2) Beheading 12 Nepalese workers. Video available on the internet. 3) Murder of over 300 school children, parents and teachers. 4) Kidnapping of female humanitarian workers. Sept. 11, 2001 was committed by Muslims. The atrocities committed in Afghanistan and Iraq were committed by Muslims. The Chechen terrorists: Muslims. The Sudan genocide: Muslims. So just who the hell do they think is going to be won over to their cause by these acts? No one has any sympathy for them, with acts like these. In fact, in the long term, I think they are creating a backlash that will soon lead to worldwide effort to annhilate them. And it may even lead to persecution of peaceful Muslims, where they live in countries that are being victimized by the terrorists. It won't be long before someone starts bombing mosques here in America, in retaliation. Maybe some old-fashioned lynchings from trees. WWIII, here we come. turtlespeed 226 #22 September 8, 2004 Quote A top Russian general on Wednesday warned the military will strike "terrorist bases in any region of the world," while authorities offered a $10 million reward for information leading to two Chechen rebel leaders blamed for last week's deadly raid on a school. And I think that the UN should as well. The Russians have my full support in and of this. It is time to end the terrorism. This is not at all different than Bush's mission of Iraq, and Afganistan. Both held and supported terrorism. So I ask you: Why would anyone (Non Islamic) be against taking action?I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
