peacefuljeffrey 0 #1 September 8, 2004 Vegan couple missing with malnourished son Apparently, the crackpot husband, who refers to himself as a "radical environmentalist" and a vegan, was angry that his malnourished son had been fed non-vegan food by his in-laws, and that child protective services had been interested in taking the boy away from his parents, and he absconded with the boy, telling his in-laws that if arrested, he will kill himself and his child. What is fucking wrong with people? Why do such whackos inhabit this world?! Blue skies, --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" peregrinerose 0 #4 September 8, 2004 I don't give a flying rat's ass about the wackos, it's poor son of wacko that I feel sorry for. It's the kids that have to deal with the effects of bizarreness most acutely and it's not right. We don't even have to go into what I think about vegan diets. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Nightingale 0 #6 September 8, 2004 nothing wrong with being vegan, or having your kids be vegan, if you do it right. it takes a lot of research and planning to make sure you get enough vitamins, minerals, and protein. This guy's an idiot. I feel sorry for the kid.
Botellines 0 #7 September 8, 2004 I think that being vegan is a personal choice as religion. IMO parents should stick to a more conventional (and harder to fuckup) diet at least till his teenage years.
freeflybella 0 #8 September 8, 2004 I will absolutely not feed my child anything I wouldn't eat. Once he's old enough to know better, he can decide for himself. Conventional isn't necessarily healthier. It's easier. If I refuse to eat something I think is dangerous or unhealthy or just unkind, why should I grow my kid on it? Starving or threatening to kill your child isn't vegan - that's crazy. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

Starving or threatening to kill your child isn't vegan - that's crazy. Conventional is less restrictive, more variegated, and therefore much more likely to provide the nutrition kids require -- particularly without much concerted effort or planning. If you're gonna be a vegan and force that on your kids, you'd better be sure you're not fucking it up. And this asshole did not. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
