Dontcha hate when this happens?

No comment needed on this, but I wish I'd been there for this interview with the Bush-Cheney campaign manager:

------------------------

BLITZER: Any quick reaction to Michael Moore?

MEHLMAN: Michael Moore is one of John Kerry's surrogates. He has been out there. He sat with Mrs. Kerry in John Kerry's box during their convention.

BLITZER: Did he sit with Mrs. Kerry, I don't think he sat with Mrs. Kerry.

MEHLMAN: Well, I know he sat in the box. And he has made a number of outrageous statements during the course of this campaign. And I...

BLITZER: He sat with Mrs. Carter, Jimmy Carter -- and former President Jimmy Carter, just to be precise. I was there.

MEHLMAN: I apologize for that.

These people are smart and have a winning formula. A lie that someone wants to believe is all that is remembered. Facts have never been important to the republican movers. Manipulating peoples unconsious predjudices so that they will go against their own self interest is all too easy. The rich get richer and the poor keep getting sent to their deaths by the sons of the wealthy who were too smart to risk their own necks.

Well no wonder he got it wrong -- it just wasn't "seared into his brain" like some people a lot more relevant than Melman. Start a post about that, why dontcha! ;)

When you say "facts have never been important to the REPUBLICAN movers," it definitely appears that you are saying this to the exclusion of DEMOCRAT movers... and since we all know that Democrats lie just as bad as Republicans do, your statement makes you seem utterly biased by leaving out Democrat liars.

I'll leave it to you to point out the Republican lies, but here is a bit about Carolyn McCarthy, the woman who ran for congress strictly on the basis of supporting gun control.

She has consistently supported and sponsored gun control legislation that does nothing to support crime; touts the 1994 "Assault Weapons Ban" as having had a tremendous and worthy impact on making America safer from gun violence despite the fact that it simply prohibited further manufacture and sale of weapons with specific cosmetic features that have no effect on the caliber, power, rate of fire of firearms; claims there is a "gun show loophole" by which terrorists are obtaining weapons (when everyone knows that terrorists are not hard-put to obtain guns from states that support terrorism) and which allows guns to be sold at gun shows without a background check performed on the buyer, which is true only of private person-to-person sales at gun shows, a small percentage of the overall sales that are conducted at them (and dealer sales are legally required to have background checks as though they were taking place in a gun store).

So DEMOCRATS lie. How about them apples?

Actually, Kerry said it TWICE, seered - seered.

Like putting the back of your hand on a grill, taking it off, and then doing it again!

And even though he was so double-branded, he still doesn't remember the events correctly.

Or, he is intentionally not telling the truth.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I hope so.

But I know what you meant.

Since my father is a gun dealer, and I have owned firearms all my life, gun control is not a big issue with me. Personally I think that EITHER we should all be able to carry them wherever and whenever we want OR that gun control should be comprehensive and rigorously enforced. Either of these ways would be more effective at detering crime than the current structure.

The problem with attempting rational discourse on any issue is that people are not rational. They are rationalizing. They are also easily manipulated by unconscious fears. Why do you think the republican party has consolidated its power base by pandering to the one issue voters? Because these people are easy to manipulate. Lets use the gun rights group as an example. A rational person might look at the data and see if some form of legislation might work at mitigating the social cost of guns in our society. An irrational person cannot even discuss the issue. Why Not? Because they have been programed to react instead of think. This programming is done intentionally to us by the monied interests involved using the process of association. The paid mouthpieces of these monied interests will associate the product (in this case guns) with emotional concepts like FREEDOM and HONOR or more often fear concepts like CRIME. You can determine whether you have been programmed by seeing if you have an instant emotional reaction to an idea. Any idea. Say Gun Control perhaps. If you are emotionally attached to an issue you cannot think rationally about it. That is what they are counting on.

For the republicans its as easy to rack up votes from the gun rights people, anti abortion, gay haters, no taxers, and racists as pushing the one appropriate button. If they keep their finger on it long enough you won't even have time to think about the issues you are not emotionally involved in.

And of course democrats lie. Everybody does.

When Clinton lied nobody died.

I'm sure you are right. It's just that of the people I know personally from both parties all of the one issue voters I know happen to be republicans.

The democrats I know personally tend to a greatest good for the greatest number philosophy so a range of issues is generally important to them like healthcare, education, childcare etc. I personally have never met a one issue democrat.

Once again I am sure you are right. All but one of the admitted racists I have known personally were republicans (I am from Texas). I admit the possibility that they were merely more vocal. I know many republicans who are not racist.

> Gee I guess he was wrong...Kinda like most of Moore's stuff?

And all of Bush's pre-war claims, and promises on the economy, and the deficit, and on gay rights, and on the environment . . . . Remember, if a republican says it and it turns out to be false, it's not a lie, he "just got bad information."

And if a Democrat flat out lies its OK, but if a Republican does the same thing its a call to arms.

Moveon.org is OK. SBVFT is not.
