kallend 2,174 #1 August 27, 2004 Bush succeeded wildly in his goal of enriching the rich at the expense of the poor and middle class. According to yesterday's US Census Bureau report: About 1.4 million more people were uninsured last year as employers dropped health coverage, priced it beyond workers' ability to pay or eliminated jobs. The number of poor Americans grew by 1.3 million to 35.9 million, or 12.5 percent of the population. About half of that increase -- 733,000 -- was among children. Their poverty level rose from 16.7 percent to 17.6 percent of U.S. children, the largest one-year jump since 1991. And he managed to turn a $200B surplus into a $350B deficit in the process, thus shifting the burden to our children and grandchildren. Great work, GWB!... That's actually net. Those fortunate to have coverage through state or federal programs because they are poor are considered insured. The cost of uninsured medical care is one of many factors that is driving up the cost of insurance for those that do have coverage. It's not as glamorous as the medical malpractice awards but has a bigger impact overall.illegible usually
CanuckInUSA 0 #4 August 27, 2004 Hey don't forget. The only thing that is important to GWB is his war on terror. Nothing else matters. I saw him on TV last weekend where he said these Swift Boat ads against Kerry were wrong. But what were the next words out of his mouth? "But who do you want to lead the war on terrror?". The guy has a one track mind. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Just read the other day that a5th and 6th hospital in LA have closed their emergency rooms because they can't afford to keep them running due to treating uninsureds. Pretty soon, it won't matter if you have insurance or not, because there won't be anymore hospitals or doctors.

TheAnvil 0 #7 August 27, 2004 John, I'll have to agree with you. GWB did an excellent job of mitigating the effects of the Clinton-Gore recession. Just think how screwed we'd be if those tax cuts hadn't been enacted! Whew! I'm so glad the dem's weren't allowed to steal the election. Can't think of how poorly the economy would be performing had idiot-boy Gore been in office over the last few years! If you believe that, I expect you also believed Bush's wildly inaccurate predictions on the size and duration of the deficit (2002 State of Union address) and the growth in employment (2002 and 2003 President's Report on the Economy). Wait - wasn't it YOU that said anyone predicting a small and short-term deficit was an "ignorant man" or a "liar", and probably both. Yes, I do believe it was you.... TheAnvil 0 #9 August 27, 2004 It seems you're still having delusions of grandeur about your chances of winning the Nobel Prize in Economics for the John Kallend Four Element State Vector for the Economy. I just don't think it's going to stand even a modest scrutiny, but good lucky anyway. We need a skydiving Nobel Prize winner.
