Mario Billings, 32, a convicted thief, entered his plea before Judge Timothy Chambers in the Cook County courthouse in Skokie, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office said. Billings also pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle in the 2003 incident. The case drew widespread attention from gun-rights advocates after prosecutors determined the homeowner, Hale DeMar, shot Billings in self-defense but still charged DeMar with failing to renew a firearm card. The charges were later dropped. DeMar shot Billings last December after Billings allegedly used stolen keys to enter the house and set off a security alarm. Billings crashed through a front window to escape. Billings previously sneaked into the house through a dog door and stole DeMar's BMW sport-utility vehicle as well as a television and a ring of keys. Billings was arrested at a hospital where he parked the BMW, police said.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
peacefuljeffrey 0 #2 August 17, 2004 DeMar should be cited for failing to kill the piece of shit Billings. On every other charge, he should walk. It's nice to know they dropped the firearm charge, but now, of course, his gun ownership is known to the authorities so I presume he had to give them up. It's also troubling that the law still exists to screw gun owners who might find themselves in the same predicament DeMar was in. The gun laws in IL are for shit. I read that they're trying to decriminalize gun ownership when the gun is used in self defense. GOOD. I hope that passes, as a stopgap until we can get right-to-carry in IL. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
