Well, you may have missed a few CCD classes because this statement is untrue. According to Catholic teachings a married couple may have sex as often as they want as long as they are willing to accept pregnancy, should it happen. True, artificial birth control is not allowed but they can still practise Natural Family Planning. Sex serves two purposes in a Catholic marriage. One being procreation, the other being the open expression of love between the married couple.

Well, natural birth control (AKA coitus interruptus) is some form of cheating. According to catholic religion sex is the mean of human reproduction. Ask your priest what he thinks of having sex with your wife and pull out at the last moment only to come on her tammy. He may not find it very catholic.

Provided it's an acceptable type. When Amy and I took the church-required NFP course before we got married, it was taught by a couple that practiced NFP (and who ironically had two unplanned pregnancies.) Oral sex was _not_ part of an approved catholic lifestyle because it "did not make the woman an equal partner in the marital embrace." (I thought it was funny that they assumed that oral sex only went one way . . .)

Sorry to hijack, but it reminded me of a good joke.

What is a 68?

You give me head, and I owe you one. :P

No. During an early meeting with our local priest, he gave us a bunch of literature for wedding planning. One of them said something along the lines of:
------------------------------
'Here comes the bride' is not appropriate for music during the wedding ceremony. In fact it comes from an adaptation of a Shakespeare play, and was performed during a sham wedding between a man and a prostitute. Protestants may find such music acceptable, but it is not acceptable to the Catholic church for such a solemn ceremony.

Umm - "Here Comes the Bride" is from Wagner's "Lohengrin" and has nothing to do with Shakespeare. The Lohengrin story is concerned with Christian knights of the Holy Grail. Elsa is not a prostitute.

Looks like the priest was not only being absurd, but was wrong as well.

They say that Wagner's music is not really as bad as it sounds.:)

...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

I know I said I was done with this thread, but I couldn't leave this one unanswered. This is actually directed to BillVon. Bill, you are known to correct inaquaracies here. I'm curious, you claim to have taken the NFP course, yet you have not pointed out the inaquaracy of the quote above. Why is that?

You seemed to be doing a pretty good job there. Our NFP course actually made no moral judgement on withdrawal, only to say that it didn't work well as a contraceptive. (As you know, NFP is not withdrawal.)
