Nice commentary on the lack of media coverage for the Swift Boat Vets.

Yours in agave,

WHAT? You mean 60 Minutes did'n do a Two-Part Special about it?

I'm astounded. Why is that do you think, they didn't air something such as a new book?

Nice objective commentary...

"...creating phony film footage of his exploits with a home-movie camera, and recommending himself for medals and Purple Hearts in vainglorious reports he wrote himself. (This was apparently before the concept of "fragging" put limits on such behavior.)

After three months of combat, Kerry had collected enough film footage for his political campaigns, so he went home. He even shot three different endings to the episode where he chases down a VC guy after test audiences thought Kerry shooting a wounded teenager in the back was too much of a "downer." After filming his last staged exploit, Kerry reportedly told a buddy, "That's a wrap. See you at the convention in about 35 years."

It's that a direct quote from kerry, or is that paraphrased?

You gotta love articles that mention kerry, clinton, and paula jones, and are looked at as objective.
Plus, when the advertisement on the side of the article reads "Take 3 Conservative Books for $1 each", it's safe to assume that it's a little politically motivated?

Nice article , Vinny

Quite. Why didn't you comment on the obvious disparity in media coverage of Mr. Wilson and the Swift Boat Vets? Or did Ann's other sarcasm and wit drown out that oh so salient point?

Are you kidding me? Every time I put on the news they are talking about them. They're talking about how Bush has asked them to stop their slanderous campaign. They're talking about how they pulled the same tactics agains McCain in the 2000 primaries and accused him of cooperating with the enemy while he was a prisoner.

>Nice commentary on the lack of media coverage for the Swift Boat Vets.

Well, considering that it's been on the front page of CNN and MSNBC for the past week, it's hard to see what the commentary has been on. Has the Akron Post-Intelligencer been remiss in reporting it or something?

Also, I have a hard time taking anything she says seriously. This is the same woman who has said the following:

On Muslims: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."

"We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. Otherwise, they will turn out to be outright traitors."

"God says, 'Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It's yours.' "

"I love Texas Republicans! They're these beautiful women, they're so great-looking, they're completely loaded. They're dripping in this gorgeous jewelry, they're really funny and sarcastic and smart."

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

She has about as much credibility as Howard Stern. She is able to say outrageous things that make her lots of money; nothing wrong with that. But to take her seriously? Might as well base your vote on Krusty the Clown's political opinions.

>Has he publically stated which side he's supporting yet?

Diamond Joe Quimby, of course. His platform:

GUNS:
Diamond Joe Quimby knows that guns don't kill people - the bullets do. That's why Joe will be limiting each American to 25 bullets a year (or 20 for convicted felons). Under this plan, Joe predicts a 15% reduction in shootings, and a 25% increase in pistol whippings, which the Mayor has always considered the coolest-looking form of personal assault.

IMMIGRATION:
If elected, Joe will radically increase immigration from Russia, the Philippines, and all other major stripper-producing nations. According to Joe, "America truly is a land of immigrants, from the luscious Salma Hayek to the delightfully mischievous Lucky Charms Leprechaun."

EDUCATION:
Joe will ensure that no child graduates high school without such basic skills as knowing how to mix a dry martini or how to hide an unconscious showgirl in the maid's quarters.
In addition, Joe will vastly expand the number of college scholarships. Notes the mayor, "If my experience is any indication, college can be the best six years of a young person's life."

THE ENVIRONMENT:
According to scientists, the 90s were the hottest decade in recorded history, because of the continued use of CFC gases. Joe considers this an awesome achievement, but thinks we can still do better.
If every American sprays just one can of cooking spray into the atmosphere per week, by 2005 Alaska will be a tropical paradise, and the entire Gulf of Mexico will go up in flames, resulting in an abundance of delicious grilled swordfish.

TAXES:
Under Joe's plan, Americans will stop paying taxes altogether. We will simply send the military across our northern border every morning, and beat up the Canadians for their lunch money. This will provide us with more than enough money for highway construction, military infrastructure, and a really cool collection of comic books.

YOUTH:
Like Whitney Houston, Joe Quimby believes the children are our future. That's why he supports rolling back the voting age to 16 and the statutory age to 15 - no, let's say 14. Until then, Joe wants to remind all those teens out there that although they may not be able to vote, they can still contribute to his campaign. As the Mayor says, "You may be green, but so is your money."

I'd vote for Bart or Homer over sKerry, but I'm not sure about Krusty.

Ann's articles are always hilarious and good reading. Her prose is dripping with sarcasm and I love it. I've read all of the quotes you mention before - they were hilarious when I read them and are hilarious now because I remember the context in which they were used.

PK - check out how Wilson - proven liar - was covered vs. the Swift Vets. Quite interesting. Wilson - instant credibility. SwiftVets - instant frauds.

If Ann Coulter ever has a salient point, it's quickly lost amongst her harpy-like screeching and hyperbole.

If I want to hear from the Swift Boat Vets (and I do) I'll get my information from them and not some party hack.

Their website is mediocre. I'd get their book. Though it will have to wait. I'm reading 1421: The Year China Discovered America right now and have another book lined up after that.

Well, Wilson definitely got a credibility boost when someone in the administration leaked the info about his wife. That made it appear that the administration was afraid of what he had to say.

Plus your comparing the credibility being granted to a diplomat under the Bush administration w/ no ties to Kerry that criticized Bush to a bunch of guys who were in Vietnam at the same time as Kerry 30 years ago who have supported Bush all along and said the same kinds of things about McCain in 2000.

Based on that, who would you thing had more credibility?

And the media coverage of Wilson's inconsistencies has been...where, exactly? Nonexistent you say?

The Swift Vets - instant questioning of their credibility. Mr. Wilson - not.

The SwiftBoatVets showed a picture of themselves with John Kerry in Vietnam and then said they were against John McCain? I think not.

As Boortz writes today in his townhall.com column, we didn't hear any shouts of partisanship out of the news media against those speaking out about Bush's National Guard service did we? LOL.

The SwiftBoatVets showed a picture of themselves with John Kerry in Vietnam and then said they were against John McCain? I think not.

And, in an interview with The Associated Press, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona -- a former prisoner of war in Vietnam -- denounced the ad as "dishonest and dishonorable."(McCain condemns anti-Kerry ad)

McCain told the AP the ad was "the same kind of deal they pulled on me" during his 2000 presidential race, when the Arizona lawmaker ran against Bush in the Republican presidential primaries.

At the time, McCain's backers accused Bush allies of using telephone surveys to spread rumors about McCain. The Bush campaign said it knew nothing about the tactics and couldn't do anything about them.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/05/kerry.veterans/

AND

In 2000, Bush's supporters sponsored a rumor campaign against McCain in the South Carolina primary, helping Bush win the primary and the nomination. McCain's supporters have never forgiven the Bush team.

McCain said that's all in the past to him, but he's speaking out against the anti-Kerry ad because "it reopens all the old wounds of the Vietnam War, which I spent the last 35 years trying to heal."

"I deplore this kind of politics," McCain said. "I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. I think George Bush served honorably in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War."

Geee...wonder why the press is discrediting them. Maybe they're following McCain's lead.

When your boat only holds a handful of men, and other boats routinely work with and around boats, aren't men of the other boats valid opinions?

Example: (platoon is made up of squads) A squad leader gets some good reviews from some of the men in his squad. Other squad leaders, and men of the other squads, all from the same platoon, give less stellar reviews. Are their opinions to be considered invalid?

Ahhh so purportedly starting rumors about John McCain - whom I supported fervently over GWB - equates to showing a picture of yourself with John Kerry in Vietnam and calling him a liar, eh? Not that Kerry's own words on the Senate floor don't prove him a liar easily enough, mind you, but exactly how are you equating the two?

And where were the cries of partisanship against those chortling merrily about GWB's Guard Service? I know! How silly of me! They were covering the 'Byrd would have been right during the Civil War scandal'- how silly of me...er...wait...they weren't there. Oh! I know! They were covering Corrine Brown (D-FL) saying that white folks have no business formulating foreign policy with regards to Haiti! Er...wait...that...er...didn't get a lot of press either. Surely they were busy covering something of import. Perhaps it was my second cousin winning the greased pig contest in the Appalachian hills of Harlan County, KY. I'm sure they were all there. Cousin Haskell is, after all, a Republican.

OMFG:o:o:o

I agree with Vinny!

I supported McCain over GWB :)
Course, I also supported him over Gore, but Bill Bradley would have been a tougher choice.

Ah well, what's past it past.

What exactly are you referring to here... I see you writing about Kerry the liar all the time, but I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. Is this somehing from Vietnam or something?
