"And Im talking about the UN making money on "Oil for Food"..... "

I hope you are talking about corrupt individuals making money within the UN, as opposed to the UN as an organisation.
There is a huge difference.

The UN let it happen.

I mean you want to blame Bush for prisoners being treated badly in Iraq....Would not that same thread of logic also blame the UN for it's members actions?

Nope, never have done. I was going to use that analogy to defend the UN as an organisation.:S

Firm's Iraq Deals Greater Than Cheney Has Said; Affiliates Had $73 Million in Contracts

Colum Lynch

06/23/2001
The Washington Post

UNITED NATIONS -- During last year's presidential campaign, Richard B. Cheney acknowledged that the oil-field supply corporation he headed, Halliburton Co., did business with Libya and Iran through foreign subsidiaries. But he insisted that he had imposed a "firm policy" against trading with Iraq.

"Iraq's different," he said.

According to oil industry executives and confidential United Nations records, however, Halliburton held stakes in two firms that signed contracts to sell more than $73 million in oil production equipment and spare parts to Iraq while Cheney was chairman and chief executive officer of the Dallas-based company.

France and Germany both agreed to a deadline (within 30-90 days) by which Saddam had to cooperate 100% or UN forces would invade. The US didn't want to wait even 30 days.

It's sickening is what it is. John Kerry seems to have lost sight of the fact that his supporters are desperately looking for a new President, someone different thhan George Bush. If he had the 'nads to stand up and say "hell, no I wouldn't", he might actually get some enthusiasm out here. I mean hell, the guy launched his political career with the VVAW demonstrations against the Vietnam War (no arguments please, just a fact...).

But now he's smooching up to some imaginary "swing vote" that won't vote for him anyway. Personally I was pissed as hell with Kerry for voting for Bush's war. But when it became clear that Kerry was sweeping the primaries and being perceived as "electable", I decided that I'd just have to let go of it and support the jerk.

And now this. I'm still going to vote for Kerry. I have to. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd vote for Michael Jackson before I'd vote for Bush. But Bush is gonna win and I'm disgusted. That is all...

Thanks for the link, Bill. Halliburton was selling LEGAL oilfield equipment to Iraq. France/Germany/Russia (among other countries) were selling PROHIBITED DUAL-USE EQUIPMENT to Iraq. The UN was skimming the cream off the top. Big difference there.

And why should we? Hussein had already been jerking us around for over a decade. We should have gone after him years ago, after he threw out the inspectors the first time.

I guess we're supposed to play British policeman ("Stop, or I'll tell you to stop a second time!") until countries THAT WERE SELLING PROHIBITED DUAL-USE TECHNOLOGY TO IRAQ tell us we can go in? FUCK THAT!!!!!
