"Overall, I don't know that I would be one to want to promote a whole lot of people carrying concealed weapons in this society." -John Ashcroft

What's your sig line about, there, Kev?

Is it meant as irony, or pointing out hypocrisy, or what? Ashcroft's Treasury is the one that came out with a pro-gun-rights statement to the U.S. Attorneys, who now, under him, are not to argue the "collective rights" argument in court. I haven't seen quoted material besides your sig line that he said that. Does this somehow relate to your favoring of a patchwork of different state laws, which prevents smooth transitions of concealed carry from state to state and leaves people confused about where they are and are not criminals?

"Overall, I don't know that I would be one to want to promote a whole lot of people carrying concealed weapons in this society." -- Explaining his position on legalization of concealed weapons as Missouri governor in 1992. As a senator, Ashcroft later urged voters to legalize concealed guns in the state.

That comes from this web-site:

Would seem Mr. Ashcroft has a little flip flop in his history as well. :)

Both. He's either against CCW as illustrated in this sig. Or he's for it and a liar. Or he changed his position which by rebublican standards constitutes a flip flop and pandering to voters instead of "doing what's best for you whether you like it or not".

Let me clarify this point for you directly even though I addressed it several times.

I do NOT support a patchwork of different laws. I would prefer that CCL laws were consistent across the country. But violation of state's rights is worse. So, the solution is get the states to create reciprocity agreements as they have been doing and continue to do ever since CCL started popping up in different states.
