turtlespeed 226 #1 July 22, 2004 Just thought you'd enjoy this. During a campaign tour of the Apache Nation Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said he had a plan to increase every Native American's income by $40,000 a year. Senator Kerry refused repeated requests for details of his plan, however. He also told the Apaches that during his Senate career, he has voted YES 9,637 times for every Indian issue ever introduced. Before his departure, the Apache Tribe presented the Presidential candidate a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, Running Eagle. After Kerry left, tribal officials explained that Running Eagle is a bird so full of shit it can't fly.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
CanuckInUSA 0 #2 July 22, 2004 Well I guess Kerry is just trying to live up to the expectations of what it takes to be president. Clinton == Liar Bush == Liar Kerry == Liar Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

quade 4 #4 July 22, 2004 I would think that if you were going to write a joke (and clearly Turtle -didn't- actually write this one -- he's just reposted it) then I'd think you'd have the good sense to not use a name that is the name of an actual and rather famous native American chief. http://www.ed-resources.net/guide/exhibit/eagle.htmquade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

PhillyKev 0 #6 July 22, 2004 QuoteThe last I heard Navajos are not any of the Apache tribes. I'm thinking they might have similar political interests. I googled native american presidential endorsement and that's the first thing I came up with. QuoteThis one's probably too recent to get snoped. I've seen this joke several times over the past month. Is that anything like taking God's name in vain? He used the name of an actual and rather famous US Senator. Is that also taboo. Or did we wake up on the overly sensitive side of the bed today? quade 4 #10 July 22, 2004 What I'm saying is . . . if you're going to make up a joke, the punchline shouldn't be something that is supposed to mean one thing in the context of the joke, but in reality means something quite different to those that know better -- especially if the joke relys on a "translation" from the people that would know the difference. The joke, as written, only is funny if you don't know that Running Eagle was the name of a fairly famous and fairly unique female native American chief. If you know that little piece of triva, then the joke not only falls apart, but points out the ignorance and racism of the person that wrote it.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

turtlespeed 226 #14 July 22, 2004 Paul - I think you over sensitised yourself to the subject matter - being a sKerry supporter - LOL- no I won't go there either - you needed to justify a way to try to nullify the joke. It's still funny and now - even funnier since Keith jumped in and "propped" it up a bit.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

quade 4 #17 July 22, 2004 Who said I was a Kerry supporter? I'm mad as hell I didn't have a say in the matter. That some folks in a state with a population smaller than the county I live in made the choice for me. That totally sucks. So, while I'm very much against GWB remaining in office and while Kerry seems like the only way to remove GWB from office -- that doesn't really mean I support him. He's just the lesser of two evils. That out of the way -- I was ONLY making comments on the comedic nature of the joke, of which, I thought it only had limited value since . . . well, I know who Running Eagle actually was. For instance, would the joke have been "funny" if they had used "Sitting Bull"? Well, no, because you know (or certainly should know) who Sitting Bull was. That's all.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
turtlespeed 226 #18 July 22, 2004 LOL Actually the joke's punchline would have been different and they would have had to use Bush.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

If you know that little piece of triva, then the joke not only falls apart, but points out the ignorance and racism of the person that wrote it. So, let me get this straight. Since TS didn't know that Running Eagle was the name of a real indian chief, that makes him racist? Did I get that right? Had he chosen a different name, let's say Sprinting Eagle, that wouldn't be racist, right? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
