Zenister 0 #26 July 12, 2004 QuoteQuote We can start by allowing those whose lives are put in danger by them the right to not have to wear them. EXACTLY. I am always amazed by the decisions directly affecting cops, firefighters, soldiers et.al. in the field, that are made by the people sitting comfortably behind desks. Adminosphere: where decisions having no bearing on reality are handed down to the people on the ground. Most often by those trying to pad their evals in an attempt to show how "they made a difference" i refuse to wear a tie. As I've told nearly everyone i work with (even a few senior VPs) "Compliance with archaic (or modern for that matter) fashion has nothing to do with my job performance"____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. kelpdiver 2 #27 July 12, 2004 QuoteI agree completely about the safety issue regarding ties. But I gotta disagree that they should be destroyed from the face of the earth. When you're in a position that you need to wear a dark, plain, business suit and white shirt, the neck tie is your only outlet for individuality and expression of personal style. I like ties. I'd prefer shorts, tshirt and sandals, but when dressing for the occasion, ties are a good thing. Eh, you need to get out of Philly. Formal wear was widely eliminated in San Francisco during the boom. You can express yourself with your choice of colored button shirt and Dockers. And in the tech realm, you can often get away with the shorts and Ts. Just not at my bank, unfortunately.

Same here...but when we have clients in the office, we dress up....and then there's evenings out where casual just won't do. For the most part, I'm all about casual, but it's nice to get dressed up occasionally and hit the town.
peacefuljeffrey 0 #29 July 13, 2004 Quote Now we have the DEMS saying anything and everything they can possibly come up with to undermine the war in hopes to regain the white house. They don't care if people get beheaded because of so many front page stories of Abu Ghraib, they don't care about large scale attacks on American soil (9/11), they don't care about the 100's of planned attacks that have been stopped by our improved National security (Improved by Bush). No, the only thing that matters to them is how they can spin the facts and outright lie if necessary to get a Democrat elected. This is all true. But be careful about saying "The Democrats this or that" because there are people here who try to imply that you're talking directly about them, because by association they are also Democrats, and so they try to contort your statements into a quasi-"personal attack" on them. It's bullshit, but that's the tactic in use. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
peacefuljeffrey 0 #30 July 14, 2004 QuoteIsn't it the DHS thats doing this not the TSA? Still dress code for air marshals is utterly stupid. I thought they were supposed to blend in. I guess you're right. I re-read the article, and it's the FAMS playing the role of central idiot this time. Not that that lets the TSA off the hook for being a bunch of authoritarian stumblefucks, either. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
