peacefuljeffrey 0 #1 July 9, 2004 Dress code endangers marshals, blows their cover I've read articles about personal protection, written by professionals in the business, that say one of the most dangerous things you can do is wear a necktie. And our idiot TSA is requiring them of Air Marshals. I think that in GENERAL, in every venue around the world, neckties should be thrown onto the ash-heap of history as a useless, vestigial, stupid, pointless, uncomfortable and dangerous accessory. We can start by allowing those whose lives are put in danger by them the right to not have to wear them. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" kelpdiver 2 #3 July 10, 2004 Can they wear clipons? Doesn't do anything for their cover, but at least it can't be used against them.

Jimbo 0 #5 July 10, 2004 QuoteAnd our idiot TSA is requiring them of Air Marshals. Seems kind of silly. I thought that the air marshals were supposed to be unidentifiable, to blend in. quade 4 #6 July 10, 2004 Yes, and it's not like I'm defending the policy, but if you wear a suit in first class you can look like a middle-aged lawyer/businessman, keep a fairly large yet easily accessable "briefcase" at your feet and blend in quite well. I would think it would be just as easy to come up with several different covers that would also "work". I just hate ties. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
RoadRash 0 #7 July 10, 2004 If I were an air marshal...I would tell the airlines to go f*ck themselves...I would say they could wear whatever they GD please as long as they blend into the crowd and are inconspicuous. A dress code for someone essentially (there is no essential about it), someone who is working undercover?!?!? Who exactly at TSA came up with this garbage? I want to write them a nasty letter...... This type of thing always reminds me of when the FBI visited the fair home of Purdue University...everyone and his uncle knew which car, suit and shoes, as well as sunglasses they were wearing...But they weren't working undercover...or so we were told...after they were snooping around student records...and yes, they found Al Quaeda in West Lafayette, IN...... ~R+R...In IN!?!?~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~... FallRate 0 #8 July 10, 2004 Quote Can they wear clipons? Yes, they can, and they work well. I always wondered why my Father wore a clip-on to work...he was a cop...he explained that they come right off if someone tries to grab them in a fight. I just thought my Father had a bad fashion sense, apparently he was just sensible. FallRate

As for the women TSA Air Marshals...."Female marshals must wear business suits with a blouse, knit top or dress shirt and dress shoes." Yeah, right....can we see a woman taking down a terrorist (or hijacker) while wearing a skirt! Yeah, right! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
peacefuljeffrey 0 #10 July 10, 2004 I used to think clip-on ties were loserish fashion faux-pas untl I found out that they are better than ties for both the reasons specified: comfort and safety. I now think that the wearers of real ties are the dumb ones. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" falxori 0 #12 July 10, 2004 QuoteSeems kind of silly. I thought that the air marshals were supposed to be unidentifiable, to blend in yeap. in El-Al for example (where there are air marshals since the 60's) they are even instructed not to be too "friendly" with the crew during flight, so it wont be visible that they know eachother. rickjump1 0 #14 July 10, 2004 I want to write them a nasty letter... Maybe you should. On certain flights during the summer few people are wearing ties so the sky marshall would be easy to profile.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. PhillyKev 0 #22 July 12, 2004 I agree completely about the safety issue regarding ties. But I gotta disagree that they should be destroyed from the face of the earth. When you're in a position that you need to wear a dark, plain, business suit and white shirt, the neck tie is your only outlet for individuality and expression of personal style. I like ties. I'd prefer shorts, tshirt and sandals, but when dressing for the occasion, ties are a good thing.
kallend 2,146 #23 July 12, 2004 Well, I suggest a polka-dot bow tie. Meets code, hard to use as a weapon, and no-one would believe a federal marshal (or anyone dangerous) would wear such a thing.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
Steel 0 #24 July 12, 2004 QuoteOn this we can agree. The reality is that you can agree on this because there is not an official party stand on it. Just remember 6 years back when Clinton took a stand on Iraq not allowing weapons inspections. There was international outrage. I remember I was living in Germany at the time and saw proganda coming from Spain with protesters holding signs up that said American Imperialism from 1898-1998. Still at that time you did not hear the outraged Democrats / liberals suggesting that Clinton was lying, that there were no WMD's or that Iraq was not an imminent threat. They shut up because it was their own party that was acting. Conservatives shut up because they care more for the good of the country than simply getting elected. Now we have the DEMS saying anything and everything they can possibly come up with to undermine the war in hopes to regain the white house. They don't care if people get beheaded because of so many front page stories of Abu Ghraib, they don't care about large scale attacks on American soil (9/11), they don't care about the 100's of planned attacks that have been stopped by our improved National security (Improved by Bush). No, the only thing that matters to them is how they can spin the facts and outright lie if necessary to get a Democrat elected. If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. Can't think of anything I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound. Nothing to eat, no books to read.
