Ever been in a real knife fight and NOT been cut?

Most people that get stuck don't feel the pain because the adrenaline and the will to survive is pumpin. Usually you get stuck multiple times before you quit fighting. What is your reason for this post?

Last weekend while moving I picked up one of my camping gear bags and a steak fork cut through the bag and into my calf......by looking at the fork, it went in about 2 inches and it hurt like hell!

I did not see the person get cut, but happened upon him after the fact-and it was a mess.:|

as I understand it, people who are trained in knife fights will "sacrifice" a cut on their forearm, so that they can stab their oppenant in more vital regions. if two trained knife fighters go at it, you can expect multiple wounds on the winner.

Everyone in a knife fight gets cut. Period.

Not according to the poll... It's a pity they won't tell us how they did it..:P

I can't see how you can't get cut, and consider forearms a sacrificial component - and guessing you'll have time to plug before you bleed out. Obviously, some care needs to be taken to protect your neck, inner arms and inner thighs, as they're high mortality areas.

Easy, He had a knife, I had a baton. He wasn't very experienced with his weapon, I was well trained with mine.

You can't. Anyone who tells you differently is full of shit.

Unless they had a longer weapon, a clearer state on mind, more training, and managed the first strike.

This whole conversation depends on how you define "knife fight." If that means 'any physcial altercation involving an edged weapon,' it is very possible to avoid being cut. Once you put conditions on it, escaping unscathed becomes less likely.

When the slashing comes in your direction. Put the left/right forearm in the way of the blade. I mean the area between the elbow and the wrist. No critical blood loosing veins in that part of your anatomy. Attack with the free hand to the inside of your adversary to counter the blow/slash. If you want to really know about getting cut and the art of knife fighting, military training and law enforcement is good. However, there are some areas in the Philippines where certain people teach the art and are very good at it. Not necessarily martial arts, but very skilled with the hand blade.

Perhaps it's the acoustics in here.

You don't want to believe that, fine by me.

"He goes into court, and has someone hold a dummy knife, and has someone else try to draw a dummy gun from a holster. Distance, 21 feet, I believe (that magic threshold). The kicker -- the knife-wielder is PRONE on his stomach when they yell "GO!" He gets up, charges the gun-person, and still wins the race."

Sounds like a good justification for carrying knives as a self defence/crime suppression option.;)

Although a 16 foot pike would perhaps serve one better, I doubt that it could be carried on an every day basis without raising at least a few eybrows.

Knife fight?

no..

if your were in a knife fight with someone and it councludes without a scratch (to you) your opponent was a fool who should have known by your 'attitude' he was nowhere near your level..

swords?

yes.

but then he should have known better too.... [:/]

edit:

in my mind "knife fight" means both opponents have knives..if it is mixed weapons that is simply a "fight"

During the "Benning Phase" of one little course I took, they taught us to hide the knife behind your back with one hand and extend your other hand/arm forward. They even recommended hiding one hand behind your back if you had no knife to keep your opponent guessing. ]
