billvon 3,109 #1 July 9, 2004 No suprise that the GOP had a smear website up on Edwards only a few hours after he was named as Kerry's running mate. What I found funny was they apparently had half a dozen smear sites ready to go. Click on this: www.kerrypicksedwards.com Now try these, which had to be reserved some time ago: www.kerrypicksgephardt.com www.kerrypicksvilsack.com www.kerrypicksbayh.com www.kerrypicksclark.com Ain't technology great? Write up smear sites for all possibilities, then when the VP is announced, change em all to point to the actual target. Which leads one to wonder - did they accidentally point them all to the Gephardt smear site momentarily after reading a certain NY newspaper?

billvon 3,109 #3 July 9, 2004 > How come providing information regarding a candidate is a smear > camplain but Michael Moore wrote a "documentary?" If the GOP makes a movie about Edwards and gets it released in theatres, I'd be perfectly willing to call it a documentary.
PhillyKev 0 #4 July 9, 2004 What I find interesting about the GOP site is that it is the website of a political party, and I'll be damned if I can find any info about their candidates on the home page. I see Kerry's name about a dozen times, Edwards, yep. Oh, wait, there's one reference to Bush going to a jazz concert. That's why it's called a smear campaign. People ask me why I don't see the good qualities of Bush. Guess I can't find out what they are from the GOP site.
TheAnvil 0 #5 July 9, 2004 Funny? Hmmm...perhaps. I think it good planning on their part. For once. Now if they'd just get a more aggressively conservative agenda, come to their senses about legalizing certain drugs, and take off the kid gloves when it comes to defending themselves against leftie attacks - then, I'd be impressed. Question - does fatass Moore's mockumentary...er...crockumentary....er... uhhh...documentary[sic] - does that count as a political donation?Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! What I found funny was they apparently had half a dozen smear sites ready to go. When you say, "The GOP had a website up" do you mean literally it was set up and run by the Republican party? Or are you playing fast and loose with your wording and you really just mean that people loyal to Republican politics have set it up? I mean, should we say, "The Democrats have that Bush-bashing website 'moveon.org'..."? edit: Okay, I went to the link (I'm usually lazy about doing that, that's why I asked) and it does appear to be the actual Republican committee's website. Now, the big question: Does not the Democratic party have similar shit going on that baahes the Republicans?" And if they do, why would you point out and bemoan the Republicans doing it unless you want to highlight Dems' hypocrisy? --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... billvon 3,109 #10 July 9, 2004 >And if they do, why would you point out and bemoan the Republicans >doing it unless you want to highlight Dems' hypocrisy? No such highlight (or political statement) intended. I just thought it funny that they got all the possible websites ahead of time and set them up to be ready to go. Amazing what you can do in the age of the net.
billvon 3,109 #11 July 9, 2004 >So, it's only a smear campaign if its NOT a movie. I did not imply that. However, a website is not a documentary no matter how much you want to get another dig in at Moore.
jimbarry 0 #12 July 9, 2004 I'm with you Bill, but man, I don't know... If both sides do it, and it's just run-of-the-mill tired old politics, who cares. It's just noise to me. Just trying to sift through this crap to some real objective content to use. Does anyone really think that web page is going to change anyone's minds either way?? What, and Dan Quayle was experienced enough to be president? We all know why Quayle was chosen, and we all know why Edwards was chosen, so I wish they'd both stop telling us it was cuz they were experienced. Sometimes I get a little tired of my own party (GOP) compromising the values that signed me up in the first place... Not enough to make me jump left, mind you (phew), but just shoulder shruggin' sometimes...

billvon 3,109 #14 July 9, 2004 > So, is Michael Moore engaging in a smear campaign then? By most definitions, yes. Although there is more evidence of his smearing on his website than in the movie; he attacks Bush a lot more directly on-line.
