What do People who OPPOSE Bush think of Edwards VP?

Recommended Posts

I don't know enough about Edwards to form a solid opinion, so I'm wondering what people who oppose Bush's re-election think of Kerry's choice for VP? Right wingers should respond to the thread started by the Anvil... Let's keep this thread constructive, ok?

I just read that Edwards has only served one term in the senate and has next to no other significant political experience... It doesn't sound exactly ideal when considering the next pair to lead the country... But, he is against tax cuts for the super rich, he doesn't believe in a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, instead leaving the decision up to individual states, and he wants to protect the right for "women to choose" and put their privacy and health ahead of politics. I'm all about that.
So IMO there are definitely some Pro's and Con's to Kerry's decision.
Hmmmmm.

I don't oppose Bush, but all I can say is I can't wait to see him up against Cheney in a debate. The Vice-President will eat him alive.

Well here's what John Kerry himself said about Edwards...

""In the Senate four years -- and that is the full extent of public life -- no international experience, no military experience.... When I came back from Vietnam in 1969, I don't know if John Edwards was out of diapers then."
-John F. Kerry during the Iowa Caucuses on the man he picked for #2

What's that saying about burning bridges?

And yes, Cheney will destroy Edwards in a debate.

I'm not wild about Edwards and I think a lot of folks are going to give him some digs for not having a military record, much government service or international experience . . . then again GWB is the President.

I think the VP spot is a -perfect- place for Edwards to gain the experience he'll need for the future.

I'm not sure he can live up to the "bad cop" that is what the position of VP has become in recent times. (The President can't -quite- say something, but the VP -can-.)

I think Tuna -might- be right about a Cheney v Edwards debate, but only because Cheney is so freekin' scary.

So Quade, what would you suggest to Edwards when he goes toe-to-toe against Cheney if you were his advisor? Love him or hate him, you have to admit Cheney is very intelligent and a great mind...regardless of how you feel about his political views.

If I were to give Edwards advice it might be to position himself to be seen as the direct opposite of Cheney. Paint Cheney as a war mongering wacko out to benefit is cronies.

I think Edwards could probably pull off the more altruistic point of view. I think he probably can come in and say that he's going to help clean up the mess left by Cheney & company.

And, he pretty much has to keep up the "aw shucks" & southern accent thing too. I think that's the biggest thing he has going for him.

Edwards is a trial lawyer. Don't underestimate his debating ability.

Trial law and political debates are apples and oranges. Edwards has a pretty face, but Cheney has a commanding and dominating presence by comparison.

what people think of Kerry's choice for VP?

I don't want a medical malpractice attorney with only four years experience in politics to be the man who is just a heartbeat away from becoming President, in charge of our freedom and security.

Yes, but who will win the debate? :P

Don't know how many of us are old enough to remember the 1976 election, but there's some reason to believe that snarlin' Bob Dole's pit bull debate tactics may have cost Ford the election. I mean Dole was debating Walter Mondale for heaven's sake, it shouldn't have been that hard. But he was so damned nasty it turned a lot of people off (this was before old lovable Bob started watching all those Britney Spears Pepsi commercials).

I'm pleased to see John Edwards on the ticket, I'd been hoping Kerry would pick him. Edwards won a lot of respect & admiration during the primaries, even if he did win only one of those.

Here's another quote from someone who opposes Bush. This is another one from Kerry talking about Edwards.

“‘I think the American people want an experienced hand at the helm of state,’ said Kerry, who has spent 19 years in the Senate compared with Edwards’ five. ‘This is not the time for on-the-job training in the White House on national security issues.’”

Funny that most people who have replied to the question are people who support Bush.....

That's because unlike the rest of the skydiving community, it seems that the majority of people who post on DZ.com are conservative. Or at least the ones who care to "debate" (if that's what you would call it) are...

Strange...I must hang out with too many DZ bums, 95% of whom, in my experience, are liberal and would never support Bush.

If you're looking for liberals here, there are a few, but they are often drowned out by the sound and fury of the screaming masses of Bushies... ;)

As someone who opposes Bush, I think it will be a good shot in the arm for the Kerry campaign.

Wishful thinking. It got a 4% boost in his numbers. That's pretty poor compared to the 18% Clinton got when he picked Gore and the 17% Gore received when he selected Leiberman.

The democratic party in general are not thrilled about this man, who in all likelyhood was his 3rd choice for VP (next to Clinton and McCain)...although he'll never admit it.

Personally I love the pick. Edwards would have been my #1 choice if I was running as president for the Democratic party. He made a good selection. Edwards is fantastic.

if your going the pr route, edwards is a good choice....big smile, cute family, good speaker, personality+...kerry is a cold fish in public speaking terms...irreguardless of talent or message....he's not good at getting things across to the general public...
gepthart also does not come across very warm in public
also in respose to gulliani as vp......
how could a party that wasted billions on a blow job
put someone who cheated on his wife ,and denied it until the press essentially forced his hand....
how could they put him on the ticket???

hmmmm.....

John Kerry, before the Iowa caucus in January:
"When I came back from Vietnam in 1969, I'm not sure John Edwards was out of diapers then yet or not."
This is not exactly an image that conveys seasoning and experience. And these words come from the mouth of the same man that has now picked him as his running mate.

So, the questions I have now are: why does Kerry all of a sudden decide that Edwards is worthy of being Vice President? Was he lying about Edwards worth then, or is he now comfortable with an unworthy man as Vice President?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Either way, it doesn't say much for the integrity of John Kerry either...

Have Americans become so shallow, and enamored with TV images, that they would pick a man that might lead their country and be in charge of their freedom and security, based solely upon good looks?

If so, maybe Angeline Jolie would make a good President.

hmmmph. He's originally from the next county over from where I grew up. He made his money by only taking the cases that would pay big. I never have liked him and didn't vote for him for senate. Not much chance he'll get my vote.
