You pick and choose the quotes that support your point. I know that those were in the papers. How about the rest?
"America will never be destroyed from the outside,
if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

***It was equally desirable, that the immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice. A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations
-Alexander Hamilton

I have ever considered the constitutional mode of election ultimately by the Legislature voting by States as the most dangerous blot in our Constitution, and one which some unlucky chance will some day hit and give us a pope and antipope. - Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to George Hay, 1823.

It is interesting the way you use the quotes here. As I am sure you know the Federalist Papers were an exchange of ideas and issues. Those creating the Constitution were working to build something never constructed before. These men raised concerns and then debated them. In most cases you can find arguments made by these men that could be seen as supportive of the idea or against it. That is what they did. The quote above is seen be me as an argument not to set up the elections in this manner. Your post seems to indicate to me that you think it was his argument for it. However, when the debate was over what really counted was how they wrote it and voted for it. IMO they got it right.

Oh please. If Bush had a margin of 1 elector from the state of Montana and won by a few hundred votes from Paduka-whatzit county you'd be complaining about all kinds of things from up North. We'd even have stories about a cattle driving conspiracy to where a deliberate stampede disenfranchised voters by forcing them to drive back five miles to the next crossing.

This thing has been picked apart for over three years. You analyze data hard enough and you'll get it to scream and tell you whatever you want, even if it's not really there.

Fine. You win. Everything is all a republican plot. Every police car was perfectly positioned, every poll worker was pre-screened for maximum democratic damage, every half-assed busted up registration issue was all planned years in advance because the time-viewing device built by 'Evil Conservative Industries' gave perfect foresight on which specific polling places within a few counties would decide the election.

Geez- there were even claims that a friggin police roadblock MILES from a polling place was deliberate because it happened to be a minority county. WTF?

Peace out- I'm off to find a beer.

Today, how not to ignore the mistakes of history and repeat them, a program for republicans.

Make sure you come back from Canada to vote...You know how Dems are with absentee ballots.

Hey Ron, instead of trolling, try to point out where I said anything like that. Or is it too hard to think for yourself?

This country needs to be defended from the likes of you, as I see your attitude as being a much larger threat that Iraq was.

you like hockey right?

Good. You will be seeing alot of it.

Its not MY fault you are not willing to fight for the country if it calls you...

I'm glad you couldn't pass the military physical. I would not want a guy like you covering me.

But it IS your fault, Ron. If it weren't for people like you, then we wouldn't get involved in unjust, undeclared wars.

It's not my fault your not willing to stand up for basic human decency.

Its not MY fault you are willing to reap the benefits of being an American but are unwilling to serve the country.

How are those French lessons comming?

Once again, BOTH of you cut it out. I don't care who is really a better person, who's a coward and who's indecent; discuss that via PM's, not on line.

This is the second time you two have caused a thread to be locked. There won't be a third, if you catch my meaning.
