Should GWB drop Cheney as his running mate?

Recommended Posts

Obviously this is a poll geared toward GWB supporters, but if his opposition wants to chime in, that's fine ofcourse.

I've been thinking about this and I wondered if he would move up in the polls if he chose someone like Guiliani or McCain...assuming they would accept.

I'm thinking strategy here. You really don't have to be a Republican to answer this poll. Before you post that you think GWB should be dropped from the ticket, don't bother. It's a waste of a post and it's not going to happen.

If he chose someone like Powell, I would think it would improve his odds. Both because people might see Powell as a moderating influence and because it would indicate that Bush was able to put the good of the country over cronyism. (Of course, Powell would likely not agree to be on the ticket.)

He should for all the reasons listed but he won't since Dick is part of the brain trust really running the country with W sitting out front as the puppet.

I would love to see Powell on the ticket. Hell, I'd love to the man run for the No. 1 slot. But, he has clearly stated that he is done. A shame that we lost out on such a good opportunity.

If dropping Cheney and picking up someone reasonable (and McCain or Powell would be most reasonable) means that he will be actually listening to them, and working with the world community rather than running out ahead of them in whatever direction he chooses and saying "I'm the biggest badass" then yes, absolutely. Totally.

There's a perception out there that the current administration really only hears the good news; what they want to hear, until the bad news is so loud that they can't avoid hearing it. Someone who will listen to the bad news early would be a huge strength.

I agree, and he has always hated the idea of dragging his family into the public eye. People do change their minds.
