PhillyKev 0 #1 June 17, 2004 Pentagon: Military Hid Iraq Prisoner from Red Cross
larsrulz 0 #2 June 17, 2004 Actually the initial order was not in violation of the Geneva conventions....and there aren't exactly ICRC "rules;" that is part of international law that they be given access. The initial order was that information be held from the Red Cross about prisoner "XXX." In the case of an individual being an "active threat," which it seems this guy was, then holding the information is legal. Unfortunately this prisoner fell through the cracks (or so it is said....make whatever conspiracy theories you want), so that is the "violation" of this situation. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
PhillyKev 0 #3 June 17, 2004 QuoteBoth assigning a prisoner number and notifying the Red Cross are required under the Geneva Conventions and other international humanitarian laws. QuoteDefense officials confirmed that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld ordered military officials to hold the suspected member of the Ansar al-Islam guerrilla group last November at the request of then-CIA (news - web sites) Director George Tenet without telling the International Committee of the Red Cross. Tonto 1 #4 June 17, 2004 QuoteUnfortunately this prisoner fell through the cracks. Of course he did. He wasn't in the system. That's what systems are there for. To stop things falling through the cracks. It doesn't matter though. That government will do exactly what it wants to do. I wonder what kind of shit they'd be up to if they weren't lucky enough to have a couple of nutters crash their planes into their buildings. tIt's the year of the Pig.
