lawrocket 3 #1 June 14, 2004 This is a new one on me. We're doing a conservatorship, and apparently a couple of the lady's children are not too happy. One of them has indicated his desire to kill our clients. Possibly, this desire would not be limited to the clients, but my wife (our baby) and me, as well. I'm shaking this off as idle threats. The family and my wife are not. I figure there are people who get death threats all the time - prosecutors, cops, etc. What are some steps we can take to be a little more secure? p.s. - I'm going shotgun shopping today or tomorrow. Any advice on that front? My wife is hotter than your wife.
ACMESkydiver 0 #2 June 14, 2004 Take it seriously, Lawrocket...not to live in fear, but to protect yourself. Would help you if I could buddy, but I have no real life experience on that front personally. Take care of yourself!~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Deuce 1 #3 June 14, 2004 Yes! Several times! Even had a couple guys getting the snaps undone on my duty gun when I had the delirious joy of jamming my second pistol into their eye. It's quite fun once you get the hang of it. Hasn't happened at all to me since getting out of government work though. I especially like laughing at my own lines after it's over. Dude: "Dude, I'm going to kill you" Me: "Only if I don't see you coming" Other responses: "Really? I'm going to missing person you. See, it's not a murder unless they find evidence or a body" "Ah, good. Now I know my wife will have the money for our kid's college education." "Right now is good. I like this suit" Anybody who was serious about killing you wouldn't tell you. They're just trying to get a response. Try and come up with a Bruce Dern smile, pause and say "Cool"

Deuce 1 #5 June 14, 2004 Oh yeah, that. The reporting thing. (He's a lawyer) Besides that, though, really, making threats are just attempts to screw with your head. Turning that around is great fun. If I was a lawyer I'd have something like "Death is nothing to fear, lawsuits are something to fear". Or something cool like that. Have to work on it. ryoder 1,590 #6 June 14, 2004 This reminds me of the time a friend of mine was being questioned by police about an alleged death threat made by a person he knew, against another person he knew. In a nutshell, the plaintiff was a conman/mental-case, and the defendant was a convicted felon who had served prison time. My friends answer went something like this: "Oh no, he would NEVER threaten to kill someone; Now mind you I'm not saying he wouldn't KILL someone; I'm just saying he wouldn't THREATEN to kill someone.""There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. ACMESkydiver 0 #9 June 14, 2004 QuoteQuoteEver been threatened with death? Does it count if it was my Mom? - topher ...you mean like "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it?" Why I've NEVER uttered something that horrible, when the remains of my $45 moisturizer was strewn across my master bathroom, and foot-printed into my bedroom carpet, then smeared into my pillow and all over a brand new treadmill...and the toilet water was sudsy with hair conditioner and body shampoo, and the sink was stopped up with Q-tips and over flowed with hot water that drained the hot water tank and then leaked down into our living room... ...uh, I mean, 'no'. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. happythoughts 0 #11 June 14, 2004 You are a lawyer. Punish their wallet. File a restraining order. Make their attorney meet with them ($150 an hour), get depositions, appear in court ($700 for a day). Call their attorney and chat with him, then he will send them a bill for the time that you talk to him. Ask him for copies of documents. If they didn't arrive registered mail, toss them and call up requesting to speak to him and discuss, at length, their value. Ask him to send them again. This is a legal matter. Fighting a lawyer in court is like mud wrestling with pigs, you find out that you can't win and the pig is enjoying it.
lawrocket 3 #12 June 14, 2004 QuoteAnybody who was serious about killing you wouldn't tell you. They're just trying to get a response. That's what I've been telling them. It doesn't work. Apparently, this guy told one of the clients he'd put a $10k hit on her. I knew he was full of it, since the going rate is no more than 4k with it. Still, they are nervous folks. I like your lines, though. They had me laughing. My wife is hotter than your wife.
TomAiello 26 #13 June 14, 2004 QuoteI'm going shotgun shopping today or tomorrow. Any advice on that front? Check out a Mossberg 590. I'm particularly fond of the "Marine" version. It's a real combat shotgun that has seen extensive torture testing (the Marines were using them at one time--not sure if they still are--and did a bunch of sand and saltwater type immersion tests), so you know it _will_ work when you need it. For that type of gun, it's well priced, too. Most of the other shotguns in that category tend to run over $1000. I'm sure AggieDave will chime in here in a minute...he seems like the kind of guy who would have a catalog of knowledge on this subject.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
AggieDave 6 #14 June 14, 2004 QuoteI'm going shotgun shopping today or tomorrow. Any advice on that front? This is all you need to know for a tactical shotgun. You don't want a full sized shotgun that you'd use for dove hunting, you want something shorter, with a pistol grip stock (if you know how to shoot that way, atleast a lightweight composite stock otherwise) and definately with a Firelight on the front. Oh, please, please, please go take a tactical shotgun course somewhere. Gunsite, Frontsite and Thunder Ranch are all good places to start. If you go to one, when you get back I promise you will thank me. http://www.wilsoncombat.com/index_sgt.htm--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Stik 0 #15 June 14, 2004 The Mossberg 500 is a pretty good shotgun. Make sure you get the military version cause the civilian one has a lot of cheap plastic parts. I recommend a Remington 870. Thats what I use as a primary home defense gun. The police models are very nice and relaible and dint have any plastic parts like the Mossberg. They may end up costing you a little more. Get some low recoil #1 buckshot. Good stuff. Pete

gmanpilot 0 #18 June 14, 2004 I would go talk to your investigative agency of choice. I have worked a few murder solicitation cases that began just like you describe. The lady's kids do not have to actually make the attempt. If they discuss it and take any action at all toward that end (like making a down payment to a supposed trigger man) and they get it on tape or video.....they are hosed. I the mean time, .........check your six._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Clownburner 0 #20 June 14, 2004 I second the recommendation for a Remington 870 express or police, excellent guns. Another good inexpensive one is the Winchester Defender. The Mossberg 500 Marine is better than those but way more pricy...7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
