GWB Speaks to U.S.A.F.A. -- WWII Comparison

Recommended Posts

I know that it must really be confusing to have a leader that says what he means and means what he says. The anti-Bush folks are just that anti. Instead of claiming rightious indignation at the 'vast rightwing conspiracy',maybe come up with a new positve better plan for our world. Oh, that would require thinking instead second guessing. That would require true inspired leadership, not trend following, poll watching and manipulation of the truth. George W. Bush is a man, fallible, boastfull, and sometimes wrong, but he is honest, forceful and
responsible for the safety of our homes and families. Get off his back and on his side.

I was on his side 100% when he marched into Afganistan.
I was on his side when he told me about WMDs, but I didn't think he had exhausted all of the options available to him, so, I was highly skeptical of his march into Iraq.
He has proven that saying what you mean and meaning what you say is meaningless if not backed up with facts.

Oh, I get it! We in America are free, even encouraged to disagree with our leaders. The only problem is: Many well meaning but naive people only parrot the enemy's propaganda. George Bush did not invade a poor little Arab nation for its oil, or to avenge his father's assassination attempt. The United State of America's armed forces along with allies liberated a captive nation, just as our fathers and grandfathers did for Germany, Poland, China, Italy, Philapines, and France- twice!! It is easy and trendy to repeat what other stylish people are repeating. It is difficult although to think thru matters and to act accordingly. Don't you think al-Qaeda has a Madison avenue pumping out P.R. for their cause. The time to whine about poor Saddam was before the war. Believing and encouraging their lies adds aid and comfort to an enemy that doesn't obey the basic tennants of civilization. The end is not yet written; theycan still win! What do you think Uday & Qusay would've done to our Country; fix the prescription drug costs?

>I know that it must really be confusing to have a leader that

You mean like:

"I don't think our troops ought to be used for what's called nation-building. . . . I think what we need to do is convince people who live in the lands they live in to build the nations. Maybe I'm missing something here. I mean, we're going to have a kind of nation-building corps from America? Absolutely not."

"We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories. You remember when Colin Powell stood up in front of the world, and he said, Iraq has got laboratories, mobile labs to build biological weapons. They're illegal. They're against the United Nations resolutions, and we've so far discovered two."

"Our budget will run a deficit that will be small and short-lived."

So if you mean "means what he says but is often wrong and changes his mind later" then your statement might make sense.

Did you honestly believe that Saddam got rid of his weapons! Alot of people now say WMD this and WMD that. Where were these people before the war? The argument then was: George H.W. Bush should have finished the job in '91, or N.Korea is the bigger threat". Do you think this President Bush wanted this? He didn't have a choice. Cowardice was the only other option. Weakness only encourages predators. I firmly believe, if the US and the world would have presented a more unified front; Saddam would have caved; and war would not have been required. Same thing with Hitler in '32. The only way to have peace, prosperity and knowledge in the world is the squash the criminals and oppressors. We all should be thanking both Bushes for their selfless courage. I am sure that seeing our young killed and maimed every day is devastating to the President. Doing nothing would have been easier. The easy wrong or the hard right?

Well, a lot of us were right here on dz.com, thinking that GWB was telling us the truth when he said he knew where they were.

I know that -I- assumed Saddam had them, but then again, I didn't have the benefit of, supposedly, the greatest intelligence gathering organizations on the planet.

Further, even though I assumed Saddam had them, I was pretty sure that we had not exhausted every avenue at our disposal before marching in. I thought we should have the world behind us, but we didn't and, as it turns out, -we-, the U.S. under the leadership of GWB, were incredibly wrong about what he had and where we thought he had it. Incomprehensibly, incredibly, mindnumbingly -wrong-.

One year later, after tearing up an entire country looking for them, we don't have one, even tiny bit, of information that indicates Saddam actually posed an immediate threat to the U.S..

WTF man, where were you when the rest of the world said this whole caper was a bad idea?

"I firmly believe, if the US and the world would have presented a more unified front;....."
There was a unified front over the fact that there was insufficient evidence to justify military action. I still haven't seen any.
Nobody is going argue that SH was a really bad guy, but toppling governments based on their human rights records is not standard operating procedure, more's the pity.
"We all should be thanking both Bushes for their selfless courage."
I don't know where to begin expressing my appreciation of Dubbya's actions here, I can honestly say that words fail me.

Tell us about the record deficit, Bob, preferably AFTER reading what Bush said in the 2002 State of the Union Address.

Tell us about unemployment, Bob, preferably AFTER reading what Bush's report on the economy said in February 2003.

Tell us about how we're engaging in "Nation Building", Bob, prefereably AFTER reading what Bush said in the pre-election debates in 2000.

Tell us about cuts in the veterans' care budget, Bob, preferably after reading Bush's speech at Walter Reed hospital.

Then tell us again about meaning what he says and saying what he means.

Bush to Skydive Into Next News Conference
(2003-05-08) -- U.S. President George Bush enjoyed his tailhook landing on an aircraft carrier so much that he plans to skydive into his next news conference.

The President will leap from Air Force One at an altitude of about 12,000 feet and freefall for 45 seconds before pulling the ripcord. As soon as the parachute opens, it will officially be called Air Force One, since it bears the President aloft.

"The President loves to fly, and it shows," said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer.

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-WV, immediately criticized the planned jump as a cheap publicity stunt aimed at boosting Mr. Bush's image for the 2004 elections. Mr. Fleischer agreed with the Senator.

"Yes, it's a publicity stunt. And the Senator is right. It will look great on the campaign posters," said Mr. Fleischer, "but it's not cheap. Do you know what jet fuel costs these days?"
