Mayor Daley scolded Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry Tuesday for making a wisecrack about the bicycle accident that scraped the face, hands and knees of President Bush.

According to the Drudge Report, Kerry was having a conversation with reporters that he apparently believed was off the record when he reportedly asked, "Did the training wheels fall off?"

Daley, who ripped the skin off his kneecap during a bicycle accident a few years ago, said the joke was disrespectful. "When someone falls . . . you should not wish ill upon anyone. It's not right. . . . You just don't do that. Let's have some respect for one another."

To Daley, Kerry's remark symbolized a hate-filled brand of politics the mayor has long despised.

"The thing I worry about in politics is all of these people hating one another [saying], 'I hate Kerry', 'I hate Bush.' I wish the former presidents -- Carter and Ford and Clinton and Bush -- would all get up and tell people, 'You may support candidates, but don't hate the other candidate.'

"You see too much hate. And I'll tell you one thing -- hate will turn on people. . . . When hate gets in politics, it's a very, very dangerous aspect." Fran Spielman

This is the thing that keeps me out of the political forums. I'm glad to hear that this politician, Daly, for all his faults, has said this. The name-calling is bad, but I suspect the hatred from elements of both parties is a dangerous thing.

I think it's more about tone. If you see me biff a landing and give me a hard time about it, it's probably funny.

If you are my ex-employer and you say the same funny thing with the venomous hatred the guy has for me, it would not be funny.

I do think the liberal elite (and I don't mean that in a hateful way, the wealthy, well-educated, well-meaning left) really do have a simmering hatred for Bush. I also think some of my mighty-righty buddies have a simmering hatred for Kerry and the Democratic leadership.

We just lose so much calling Bush a moron, and all who agree with him morons. It dehumanizes folks. Reading Daley's quote about it being dangerous got me worried.

I do think there are folks who would drag Ashcroft through the streets and hang him from a lampost if they could get away with it. There are plenty of things to disagree with regarding the man, but none worthy of hatred.

Hate justifies murder, and that is pretty scary to think about.

Bwahahah...that's pretty funny.

Come on now, he didn't get hurt. I doubt he would have said something like that if it were a serious accident.

At least Bush didn't blame it on a Secret Service Agent like sKerry did when he fell skiing.

I disagree. Kerry blaming the secret service agent speaks only of Kerry.

I think the problem is that extremists from both poles now think it's OK to extrapolate from the actions of a few justification to hate the rest. That seems to work well and be justified when it's "those Klansmen", and "those Nazis"

But in the past is was used to commit crimes, both insitutional and individual against "those blacks", and "those Jews", among others.

Allowing or even ecouraging disagreement to move from irritation to hatred is to tempt war.

I don't.

His track record for saying evil shit is growing by the minute - the press is actually recording some it now.

If only we lived in a perfect world....

.

No-in a perfect world he'd be made to watch hardcore porn with his eyes held open, ala A Clockwork Orange. Then he'd be made to get drunk and go to a Marilyn Manson concert, followed by an involuntary blowjob by a Thai hooker.:o

Just to be fair, Bill, so have Philly and Drunkmonkey.

There's a small amount of difference, to me, to say liberals are blamers, and then to get all misty-eyed at the prospect of Ashcroft hanging from a lamp like Mussolini. That is, after he was tortured and sodomized. (is forced oral sex still sodomy?)

Anyhow, normalizing hatred leads to really bad things. Finding a way to remove individuality by assigning individuals status in a group makes them easy to destroy.

In that environment, joking about lynching can lead to lynching.

Deuce posts something about how he detests all the partisan name-calling and backstabbing, and Ron posts a partisan attack. You're sorta proving his point there.

what parts not true?

sKerry fell down and yelled at a SS agent for doing it.

Then sKerry makes a joke about Bush falling off a bike TWO weeks after he fell off a bike.

Yep! And that's why we now have this separate forum, so people can go on in such ways without bothering the people who just want to talk about skydiving. And most people don't even have to read these threads! (Some of us aren't so lucky of course.)

this daley guy needs to calm down geez. kerry makes a funny comment after bush falls... he never "wishes ill" upon bush. wishing ill would be kerry saying "boy i hope it happens again" or "thats great, i love when bush injures himself"

My point is that sKerry fell down while snowbording, and blamed someone else for it...To the point of yelling at the guy and calling him stupid. The really funny thing is that sKerry fell down a bunch more with noone around him....

Then sKerry falls down off a bike...But a few weeks later Bush does also. Well sKerry slams bush for falling...TWO weeks after sKerry fell.

sKerry blaimes other people when he can.
sKerry sees it's ok to slam someone for something he did.

Thats funny.
