Gawain 0 #1 May 25, 2004 http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,120816,00.html --- It's an AP article. QuoteKarpinski has said she was being treated unfairly for the acts of others over which she had no control. "And actions like this renew my thought process of being a scapegoat and using the 800th MP Brigade as the organization responsible for this," she said. Whatever!! It doesn't fly with the MPs at the ground level and it won't fly with Karpinski either if anything is uncovered. That's all I have to say about that. The Taguba report didn't give her any high marks from what I saw of my brief review of it.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! skycop 0 #2 May 25, 2004 I think it fits. Hold those dummies responsible. It's kinda like me kicking Rodney King's ass, and filming it myself. " She also has said that control of the prison was taken away from her in November 2003 when a military intelligence unit was put in charge" Something stinks about this entire affair, and it hasn't yet come to light.... jdhill 0 #5 May 25, 2004 She is still responsible for the actions of her troops, regardless of who was in charge of the prison... and she is a fucking General... there are not a lot of generals in the intelligence community, and even fewer that are interogators... Further, what MI unit was put in charge? Its like the all illusive "they"... as in "they were in charge, not me..." Who is "they"? And if "they" were in charge, there would be paper on it, where's that? I would not be surprised if it goes beyond her, but she appears to bare at least some responsibility. chuckbrown 0 #6 May 25, 2004 Since the offenders were under her chain of command, there are many posters here who can't object to her being relieved. It happened on her watch. Having said that, I think she's getting a bum deal because the MI units did an end around her by de facto taking over portions of the prison and members of her unit. She's probably being relieved because she allowed the MI units to have too free a rein in Abu Guburabu.

PhillyKev 0 #8 May 25, 2004 Another fall guy....though they claim it's unrelated. Pentagon to Replace Top U.S. Commander in Iraq Quote"This has absolutely nothing to do with Abu Ghraib," added another defense official. "The secretary (Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld) is very mindful that the perception (of punishment) might arise. But it simply is not the case." QuoteThere has been no final decision on a replacement QuoteRick Sanchez has done a fabulous job. He's been there for a long time. His service has been exemplary," Bush said in response to a question from reporters at the White House. So, he's done a fantastic job, this has nothing to do with Abu Ghraib, but they are replacing him without having a replacement. This administration is unbelievable. Can they ever just tell the truth about any action that they take?
jdhill 0 #9 May 25, 2004 They have not named his replacement, but they also have not set his departure date... it may be as late as July... he has served in his position longer than any of his predicessors during this operation... He is also being looked at for command of Southern Command and another star... Are they switching him out due to the prison problem or becuse his tour was up... maybe a little of both, but he is far from being fired.
