SBS 0 #26 May 22, 2004 I think I'd be nearly pissed off enough to go kill somebody... -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
PhillyKev 0 #27 May 23, 2004 QuoteQuoteIt's cheaper to just lock someone up for life. Death row inmates are very expensive to maintain. How do you figure it's cheaper to keep someone for 50 years than to execute them in 10 or 20 or however?? According to Richard Dieter, Executive Director of the Death Penalty Information Center in Washington, D.C., the most comprehensive cost study was published by Duke University researchers in 1993. This two-year study determined North Carolina's capital cases cost at least an extra $2.16 million per execution, compared to what taxpayers would have spent if defendants were tried without the death penalty and sentenced to life in prison. Applying those figures nationally would mean $1.69 billion were spent on the 784 executions carried out nationwide since 1976 (in 1993 dollars). http://www.fguide.org/Bulletin/cappun.htm
Nightingale 0 #28 May 23, 2004 Quoteso, you believe when we get Bin Laden we should not put him to death? We should absolutely NOT execute him. If you execute someone, you simply create a martyr, a name for others of like mind to rally around. Simply lock him up and throw away the key.
Duckwater 0 #29 May 23, 2004 Id rather be dead right now than spend the next 30 years in jail. The wors thing about jail is that it is full of people that I dont believe are criminals. Drug users. They have a problem, they are not criminals....Criminals hurt other. People with diseases hurt themselves and ahoud not be punished.
ACMESkydiver 0 #30 May 24, 2004 Ok, I understand...but did that study take into account (I'm sure it probably did) the extra space in prison for those 784 criminals were they not executed?~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Nightingale 0 #31 May 24, 2004 I've read similar studies. They took into account the cost for housing (including space concerns) as well as other costs involved, both for keeping an inmate in prison, and for execution.
