I think the picture is just an attempt to add a little bit of humor to a serious topic. QuoteI hope you eventually get drafted into service. Why? I have no problem with defending this country, and i would take arms for that cause, but I really have to question the whole thing with iraq, especially with the 'war for oil' viewpoints. You really think it is a good idea to draft people for this?? -Seth :)
nanook 1 #6 May 21, 2004 I'll take it for what it is. A joke. As far as the draft, I don't think that's a real consideration, at least in the Navy. We are still in the middle of a downsize campaign. But there's a lot of negativity and doom/gloom with this war. The 'nam-theorists are louder today than ever before._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Well, you have to spent $1B on a ship before you need a few hundred more sailors. Same thing doesn't apply to the Army. And there should be a lot of negativity about Bush's war. It was a mistake from before day 1 and the people paying the price are the grunts. Not to mention that before much longer it will have cost $1000 per taxpayer for Bush to pursue his vendetta.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

nanook 1 #10 May 21, 2004 QuoteWell, you have to spent $1B on a ship before you need a few hundred more sailors. Same thing doesn't apply to the Army.*** Can't argue with you there. don't know much about the Army's workings though half, if not more, than the sailors aren't attached to ships. We have room evrywhere else to stuff draftees. I would hate for the draft to affect the fleet navy. We have problems with volunteers as it is on ship. ***And there should be a lot of negativity about Bush's war. It was a mistake from before day 1 and the people paying the price are the grunts. Well this isn't only bush's war. It's mine too. I'll take responsibility of voting him in. I don't regret it. One could argue till he's blue in the face about it being a mistake but hindsight is 20/20 and foresight is a 50/50 guess that would invalidate any prediction. Grunts, sailors and soldiers have always been paying the price. It was never war, peace, war peace, war. It was War, small conflict, big conflict, various missions, terrorist attack, missions. War again, conflict, missions ect, ect,(all compared to Viet nam) all the time. The U.S was never not doing anything and at it's most peaceful years when newsweek and cnn weren't interested, we would lose at least two or three personnel in a foreign country within a six month period and that's the nongrunt fleet navy. No info on marines and Army. Grunts swore to pay the price. So did the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen. QuoteNot to mention that before much longer it will have cost $1000 per taxpayer for Bush to pursue his vendetta. I know I won't be paying 1000 dollars, People are taxed according to income and tax bracket. 70 to 80 percent of that total cost is being absorbed by the wealthy._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

You really think it is a good idea to draft people for this?? Why? Because if you are in the service ... drafted or volunteered, you don't get to decide whether or not you agree with your commander in chief. So, being that is your attitude "I'll take up arms if I agree with the cause" do us all a favor and stay a civillian.
