Capitalism IS mean to poor people. you see, in order for some people to be rich, there has to be poor people

Capitalism is mean to nobody. You have to live by your wit. It's because they are lazy people, not capitalism that keeps them poor.

Really? Tell me what is lazy about a 22 year old orphan, brought up in 15 different foster homes and who attended as many different schools as the State moved her around, who was given a 2 week "Real world skills" course by the State before being turned loose on the world at age 18, who despite a wholly deficient education got and held down a minimum wage job at OHare airport and even saved $4,000 before being thrown out of work by the tumoil following the recession in ther airline business.

Tell me how that woman's laziness led to her current state of poverty.

no one i know works for the city of chicago for min wage. I know more than a few.

But anyway, that some person could join the service and learn a skill. Instead of playing a victim you have to rise above the problem. I know a program right now where you can learn to be a AC repairman. you work 40 hours and go to one class a week at night. total cost to you, $225.

because as stated she decided to remain a victim instead of accepting responsibility and over coming a problem.

I got laid off a couple times. You know what I did. I went and got a JOB.

If Capitalism is so evil why did you move here?

I strongly dispute your statement that poverty is due to laziness. That cannot in any way be interpreted to mean that capitalism is evil. Your success has zero to do with this woman's situation. And I did not write that she worked for the city.

Show me where I wrote that capitalism is evil?

You add 2 and 2 and make 17 because you WANT it to make 17

Like I've said before: ignorance is curable, stupidity is permanent. Luckily, most people are merely ignorant. This is good for the gene pool but no better for the current state of affairs.

Aren't most people ignorant, rather than stupid?

I think the question you're really asking is "what do ignorant people who haven't prepared for life do now that they are in mid-life?"

By the way, it is not the case, but i could very well be one week before graduating for finals in Spain are next week. So student can mean a lot of things.

Visualize a little fairy walking up to a man in robes and mortar board. waves wand. DING - you are now an expert.

Work in the field for 10 years and then write me a response. you will feel differently

Nothing wrong with studying a subject and speaking to it, but a piece of paper means nothing in any subject. I have a master's in nuclear engineering, doesn't mean I can build a power plant in my back yard.

I think we all agree than someone whith a MAster degree usually have more knowledge about the subjet than just a student. And no doubt experience does wonders. But still you have not told us why being a student unqualifies me to speak about the subject i am studing.
By the way, do you disagree with my previous statement about lack of character and having to join big groups?

Was she ignorant, lazy or stupid?

I am betting at least one.

And as for stupid..MacDonalds is always hiring.

The war is about oil.............OK imagine if you will living your daily life without oil or oil byproducts (gas, jet fuel, ruber, vinyl, etc). Takes oil to make the world go round, literally. Good luck getting that jump plane off the ground without JET-A, turbo oil, hydraulic fluid, and tires.

Of course the US does have reserves that no one seems to want to tap do to the habitation of the 3 peckered white winged buffalo bird, but that is a different subject all together. There are synthetic versions of most of these, but at a significantly higher cost.

Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

Lazyness can be cured, but we are not talking about lazy people.
Ignorance can be cured, but only if you have resources to do so. If you have to work your ass of just to eat, you have no time, money or will to study. If you really, really, really want, you wil have when you are 45 the knowledge of a 23 years old guy with resourceful parents. Then capitalism will prefer the 23 years old so we are again at the begining.
Stupidity cannot be cured, and it is true that McDonalds is always recruiting. Can you live a happy and economicaly stable live working at McDonalds? I bet not. Too bad because that is the only job capitalism will let you have if you are stupid.

"The war is about oil............."

I hear this a lot, and nobody has been able to expand on the statement.
Can someone fill me in please.
Is it about stealing the Iraqi oil?
Is it about scaring the other OPEC nations?
Is it about maintaining entente cordiale with OPEC?
In what way is it about oil?

I don't believe the war is about oil, I actually reckon its even more sinister, but a whole lot simpler than this glib often heard statement.

Read up on old Abe Lincon who used a shovel and coal to lean to write , Einstien who when he was 26 and working full time in a pattent office came up with THREE world changing ideas...Most will not ever even come close to ONE, much less THREE in ONE year WHILE WORKING FULL TIME. Edison who worked full time as a telagrapher before he started his own buisness.

If you want it bad enough you can do it.

Quote

#1. This is speculation on your part...That alone makes it worthless.

#2. Then this guy can make his childrens lives better. An old poem called "The Bridge Builder" a young man works hard to build a bridge. By the time he finishes the bridge, he is an old man. A young guy askes him why he just didn't swim across when he was a young man. He said that he spent his life to build a bridge, not for the old man, but for him the young man.

I don't mind helping others, but I'll be dammed if you want me to HAVE to help some lazy fucks. I have to do it now, but I'll limit it every chance I can.

You will not be doing as well as the smarter guy with a medical degree, but do YOU want a moron performing surgery on you?

Quote

Too bad because that is the only job capitalism will let you have if you are stupid.

what is so bad with letting people get what they can earn?

You want to just had people who are not qualified good jobs so they can fail?

Like I said I don't want a Moron teaching students, designing saftey features, or performing surgery...Maybe you do.

She was unlucky enough to have been abandoned as a baby and brought up by the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, a bureaucracy so inept that it is only matched by the Illinois criminal justice system that routinely sentences innocent people to death.

So at age 18 she was essentially on her own, destitute with a deficient education, no "life skills", and no family to fall back on.

During this time did she get a high school diploma?
So she had the opportunity to get the SAME education in high school as everyone else in public schools. Including ME.

Is she physically fit?

Is she stupid?

Any reason she can't join the military? The Job corps?

Does MacDonalds not want to hire her...Is it impossible for her to go to community college?

Why can't she:

Join the Military?
Go get a job and go to school?

As for no family to fall back on...Well my parents kicked me out at 19....Yeah I had one year on her.

Tell her to go join the Airforce....She will have money, a place to live AND she can get money for school.

There are opportunities...some just don't WANT to take them.

Every time I hear some sob story about an able boddied person out of work lamenting their situation....I call bullshit.

You mean like skydivers? Sorry, my favorite group size is 5. Four skydivers and a video guy. Not that 'big' a group, but huge for me.

Some people join groups because they are incomplete without it - that's likely either a lack of character or a real and valid need.

Some join groups because they have a common interest.

I can't see that on inspection, so I refuse to generalize. I'll take people one at a time, thank you.

In that case, I probably shouldn't bash religious people, or people in political parties, or people in the military, or people from a particular country, etc and try to take them as individuals also. It's hard to do and we aren't always successful. Simpler to just bunch them up. In any case, I find enough negative types taking them one at a time - ready to bash others for just the group they are in (country, religion, race, etc.) Good thing there are plenty of the positive types too for balance or it would be pretty sad.

It's hard to understand the difference that KNOWING about the options available to you can make in a young person's life.

If your parents don't expose you to anything, it's a lot harder to learn about them. How many inner city kids who never saw Point Break or Drop Zone have even heard about skydiving as a sport?

If you have never been to the zoo, planetarium, a restaurant besides McDonald's, or anywhere else outside of your 6-block area as a child, then your awareness of what's out there as a young adult is incredibly smaller. You have no idea of the options available.

That's why parenting is so important -- the experiences and knowledge you expose your children to are resources they can draw on their entire lives. It's by no means the only part of being a parent, but if you can see it (particularly first hand), you can aspire to it.

If you can't see it, then you have to be well above average to be able to realistically aspire to it. It's OK for some things to be limited to the way above average, but exposure to some of what's available in the world shouldn't be one of them.

Folks, before you begin to look too deeply at yourself as stellar examples of the average, consider that the vast majority of us have:
- awareness of skydiving that we turned into action
- access to the internet
- enough exposure to the internet to use it for fun
- enough interest in current affairs (which usually means reading or watching the news) to come to Speaker's Forum

That's a decently select group all by itself. It's like comparing cars among kids who go to a rich high school, and figuring that parents who don't buy their kids new cars are losers, because everyone THEY know has one.

Options are told to them in school...Militray recruiters are always talking about opportunity. Movies are made about it. Book sare written about it. Magazines make money off of it.

I challenge you to find ONE person in the US in High School that does not know about the Military being an option for money for school.

Point Break, Dropzone, Cutaway have all been on TV. Skydiving has been on cartoons (Simpsons, King of the Hill) been on sitcoms (Full House, Fresh Prince). In the news (Bush making his AFF jump was on the front page of MANY newspapers). In many movies (XXX, Point Break, Cutaway, Dropzone, Bond flicks, ect...)

I bet that most high school kids know that there is an activity called skydiving....My 100 year old Great Grandmother knew about it before I started jumping.

I bet even more know that the Military has college money to give out. I bet even more know that an education is needed to make a good life...Some just don't care.

Something we got off of our butts and chose to do...Some work two jobs to be able to jump...Others packed on the DZ..Some are kids of DZO's, but MOST worked to get here.

Well, last time I checked newspapers are very cheap and free at the Library...News casts are on every day on TV. Like you said its INTEREST....If they don't care enough to pay attention, thats them being lazy, and thats not my fault.....
