billvon 3,131 #1 May 17, 2004 A good day for civil rights. On the 50th anniversary of the decision that gave black students the same rights as white students, and ended segregation in our schools, gays in Massachusetts were given the same rights as heterosexuals when it comes to formalizing their relationships before the law. I also thought it was cool that Cambridge, the town I lived in for four years during college, saw the first fully legal marriage of gays in the US. wmw999 2,600 #2 May 17, 2004 Kind of an aside perspective... My father was in WW2 in the Navy; the whole "Blacks and Filipinos can only serve as stewards" thing. He was happy when the services were fully integrated, but thought that many of the protests were trying to move things too quickly that were moving anyway. He said that in retrospect, he could not have been more wrong. He said he was so used to how things just were (he lived in NE US, so segregation was defacto rather than legislated) that he had no real idea of just how unequal many things really were. He just never saw them in person -- it wasn't part of his world. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I believe the marriages in Multnomah County, OR were fully legal. In any case, I agree. It's a good day for civil rights. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" storm1977 0 #4 May 17, 2004 And I disagree that today is a great day because of this. However, I don't view it as a dark day. Instead just another day in which the secularists are trying to convert the moral foundation of this great nation into that of our more liberal european neighbors. Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait til 2006 when the MA constitution reverses this decision. Yep. Just like those secularists, fifty years back, tried to destroy the morals of this great nation by allowing blacks to go to the same schools as whites. And of course those same secularists, less than 15 years later, struck another blow against god's will by allowing blacks to marry whites. Why can't people just trust in god?
