This article made me think of this poll. Personally I think our priorities are backward. We ban or censor nudity, while everyone pretty much has the same parts and sees them everyday in real life. Whereas the only time I see brains exploding or limbs severed is in video games and movies, in other words, not reality.

Both should be AO. In order for that to work though you need an adult at the check out counter, not that 16yr old's friend who lets him check out the over a certian age limit game. At my local wal-mart they started making all cigarette purchases go through this one check out isle manned/(wommaned) by someone way older than 18. That keeps you from having a younger workers sneaking people through.

I think violence and nudity should both be AO, but you didn't allow multiple choices so I selected violence as AO because I think it has far greater damaging effects on children. Problem is that so many purchasers of these games are teenagers and I think the combination of both is what sells these games. Violence more so than sex.

Personally, sex and violence in video games are no different than what they see on tv. In some cases (like the kissing in Sims2), they're much lighter.

So long story short, parents need to either lighten up or watch their children more closely. If they don't want them to play the game, don't buy them the game. It's as simple as that.

The problem is many of the kids are playing online or after school when the parents are working. I don't let the parents off the hook though. They should know what their kids are doing. I also suspect many parents don't like confrontations with their children because of some deep rooted guilt on their own part.

"Hitman Contracts" has some of both.
Admittedly the sex part is limited to a fetish party or two and some pole dancers but it has made me question if the guys that wrote the game were single.
