Gawain 0 #1 May 14, 2004 Story here. Poor taste, and poor judgement indeed. I like how one of the jocks said: "I in no way meant to be insensitive..." Duhhhh...dude... I wonder what the line of "jokes" were that caused the flap... QuoteShock Jocks Fired for Joking About Berg's Death Friday, May 14, 2004 Associated Press PORTLAND, Ore. — Two Portland disc jockeys were fired from a local radio station after playing an audiotape of the beheading of American Nick Berg (search) by Iraqi militants, and cracking jokes about the grisly death. The DJs, known as Marconi and Tiny, were fired Thursday afternoon from their morning show perch at KNRK-FM, which is owned by Bala Cynwyd, Penn.-based Entercom Communications Corp. (search) Station employees would not release the legal names of the DJs. Listeners complained about the Wednesday broadcast. The station's manager sent an apology out over the airwaves, saying: "The actions of the KNRK news morning show were insensitive, inappropriate and repulsive. On behalf of Entercom Portland and KNRK, I apologize to our listeners." One of the DJs apologized on his Web site, posting a statement that read, "I have become so numb to the horrific things that happen in this world that I sometimes forget there are still people who feel. I in no way meant to be insensitive to anyone. My comments on this were inapropriate (sic)." Berg's headless body was found Saturday in western Baghdad. Three days later, a videotape posted on an Al Qaeda-related Web site showed him decapitated by hooded, armed men. U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (search) was the person shown beheading Berg, based on an analysis of the voice on the video, according to CIA officials. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! aprilcat 0 #2 May 14, 2004 Marconi and Tiny have a f***d idea about funny. As they have the potential to reach millions of people daily, did they NOT think someone would find that offensive? What were THEY thinking? Being that stupid and insensitive they deserve to get kicked off the air. Maybe they can get jobs with Haliburton and see how much laughing they do then.~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo!

skydyvr 0 #4 May 14, 2004 Hey -- where are all the Stern fans telling everyone to just "turn it off if you don't like it". I wonder if good old Howie criticized Abu Musab al-Zarqawi for not screwing Berg's neck before they ditched the body (for the less than well informed, this is a not-so-subtle reference to Stern's comments on Columbine right after it happened). . . =(_8^(1)

I really do hope this lack of instinct is not a traditional US mentality? Cannot believe.. Why would you make such a nasty implication about a "traditional US mentality"? Do you think it is fair to attempt to lump all the citizens of a country with some who exhibit bad traits? Do you not realize what an inviting target someone of German heritage is to such an attitude? Why not get to KNOW some Americans and find out for yourself whether this is "typical." How typical could it be if people called in to complain about the jokes? How typical could it be if it got them fired? Apparently, this mentality is far enough removed from the mainstream that many people are opposed to it, so doesn't that answer your question? --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... christelsabine 1 #7 May 15, 2004 "Such attitude" ? I meet this kind of attitude so many times on discussions like the present one. Addressed to me, to my country. Anyhow, in fact I did not want to generalize or to treat all alike. For this, I apologize. Christel dudeist skydiver # 3105

Perhaps an examination of your own attitude might explain why you get this reaction so often. Just a suggestion. QuoteAnyhow, in fact I did not want to generalize or to treat all alike. For this, I apologize. But in fact you did generalize. Thats why you got the reaction you did. christelsabine 1 #15 May 16, 2004 You are right on that point: I do not represent a minority here. As a part of a minortiy, I simply talk for myself and know what I said and for what I expressed my apology. As well, I do not consider your posts (always) as majority's meaning of the entire US. Or should I ?? And now I just move on... C u Christel dudeist skydiver # 3105
