lawrocket 3 #27 May 7, 2004 Hmm. I just read that Michael Moore made it all up to get publicity. Astute businessmen and corporate whores make shit up to promote their product. Michael Moore is (and always has been) what he despises. My wife is hotter than your wife.
TypicalFish 0 #28 May 7, 2004 Quote Michael Moore is (and always has been) what he despises. Aren't they all; really? Hypocritical, that is. I just finished Al Franken's new book where he lambastes the Republican Party for "calling opponents names". This coming from a man who has a book called "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot"..."I gargle no man's balls..." ussfpa on SOCNET
quade 4 #29 May 7, 2004 Quote This coming from a man who has a book called "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot"... That was the joke. That's -why- he titled the book the way he did -- it was supposed to be ironic.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
TypicalFish 0 #30 May 7, 2004 Hmmm; having not read it; I stand corrected. I think though, that one of the things I was most surprised by was the absolutely boorish behaviour exhibited by Franken (in "Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them") in the name of "confronting" those "evil right wingers". Alot of it would have made Bill O'Reilly proud."I gargle no man's balls..." ussfpa on SOCNET
quade 4 #31 May 7, 2004 Well, you kinda hafta understand what Franken is about. He's a humorist with a political bent. (Which I don't have any problems with whatsoever.) Where -I- have a problem is an entertainer claiming to be the voice of the conservatives in America with "talent on loan from God". See the difference? With Franken, he actually tells you right up front it's about being funny (or trying to be at least). Yeah, he touches on serious topics and actually does a fairly decent job of backing up his claims with actual references. Miller performs approximately this same function for the right on MSNBC. His stuff is funny as hell, but from the right point of view. Guys like Limbaugh however actually claim to be the voice of some particular group of people and they say it over and over until people start to believe them. In -my- opinion, Limbaugh is one of the worst things that's ever happened to this country. He has every right to have his radio show, but it's devisive and polarizing as hell. The recent addition of the actual left wing liberal radio "Air America" is also a little stupid, but again, at least with "Air America" you know right up front that they're not "serious". Most of their hosts are comedians and they make very little pretence at saying they are the only correct thinking people in America. Limbaugh, on the other hand, if you don't think like him, you're obviously a left wing liberal wacko.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
lawrocket 3 #32 May 7, 2004 Hey, I dont' listen to Rush. I used to, but he just wore a litle too thin for me. If there is anything I hate, it's people taking themselves too seriously. Rush was entertaining, and usually I agreed with him. Still, I found myself muttering, "You dick!" too often. Meanwhile, Franken and his ilk talk about "humor" but apply different standards. "You right wingers calling names isn't funny, even if you are trying to be, because you've got a bad heart. We are trying to be funny, so we can call you any names we like, because we've got a good heart." Franken has to tell people he's being funny. Michael Moore (I'll say it) flat out lies to support his position. But, it's supposed to be funny social commentary and it's directed at the right people or beliefs. My wife is hotter than your wife. Both of them are very amusing to read, esp if you can step away from your own beliefs and just appreciate the humor. Rush and Moore bother me a lot because they rely on too many lies or strawmen to make their rants.
rehmwa 2 #34 May 7, 2004 Rush and Moore are both painful and tiring to listen to. Moore is also a terrible liar and hypocrit. I believe Rush has much of that as well. I don't listen to either. Franken is not funny, he never was funny, the only thing I remember about Franken was the whole, "I'm good, and smart, and, doggone it, people like me" skit and that was not funny either. ...
