Hamill, 43, of Macon, Miss., was discovered when he approached a U.S. patrol from the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry, part of the New York National Guard (search), in the town of Balad, 35 miles south of Tikrit, a spokesman for U.S. troops in Tikrit said.

He identified himself, then led the patrol to the house where he had been held captive. The unit surrounded the house and captured two Iraqis with an automatic weapon, said the spokesman, Maj. Neal O'Brien

i dont see your point.....[:/]

It's funny, professional writers frequently have issues with their word placements.

1 - the iraqis had a single auto or;
2 - the soldiers only needed a single auto to take the iraqis captive.

of course 1 is the right read, but they didn't make the article friendly to literal readers....

Again, two thumbs up for Thomas Hamill whatever you prefer to classify him as (POW, prisoner, detainee, hostage, in a tight spot, FUBAR). :P

Too true - recall that some of the real wacked out lefties here were calling these guys mercenaries and they were actually glad about them taken hostage. I suppose they are upset now?

Good for him and his family. Those two prisoners will get better treatment also than they would have given him.

"Doesn't really matter to me what official status they give/gave him."

He's a truck driver for KBR (Halliburton).
KBR have lost 33 people in the Iraq/Kuwait area recently, I'm glad this guy will be home soon.

Thats great news. Saw this man on tv when he was kidnapped. the way he conducted himself was impressive. A credit to his country. I'm glad he's safe.

War's a real bitch. Do you think you've got the guts to fight it?

Good catch, Wendy!

Pajarito, your question is totally misplaced and an insult to the many South African males of Tonto's age and older (myself included) who have seen action. It had little to do with guts.

Agreed, but I think we better be judicious about claiming atrocities against US prisoners for a bit.

Agreed - Atrocities need to be identified anywhere they happen.

Recent history or isolated incidents should not impact that one bit. regardless of who they happen to or who commits them.
