nacmacfeegle 0 #26 April 29, 2004 "This stuff" was... "They" will know everything about you, where you go, what you eat, how much money you have, how you travel, where to and when.... " Every time you use your credit or charge or debit card, 'They' can track your purchases. Every time you pick up a phone, 'They' can access your records, if 'they' so desire. People who have store cards for example, are already having their purchases analysed so that stores can provide a targeted service to their consumers. 'They' being dark forces that have nothing better to do with their time than watch me. I guess the point I was trying to make was, I don't see how ID cards will make things any different from our current status quo. An article on this here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3661199.stm Of course none of this works if you use good old fashioned, dirty, untraceable, cash.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Tonto 1 #27 April 29, 2004 QuoteOf course none of this works if you use good old fashioned, dirty, untraceable, cash. Ahh. OK then. You can also be pretty safe on the phone if you buy a "pay as you go" SIM card for your cell phone, as that requires no ID. So they know what number phoned what number at what time, but not who owns the numbers... tIt's the year of the Pig.
nacmacfeegle 0 #28 April 29, 2004 But if 'they' are listening to the calls (shouldn't be difficult if they already have the numbers to monitor), it won't take long to figure out who you are... EG a typical call might be.. Nac>"Hey Tonto, its Nacmacfeegle here, fancy a beer." T> Yes usual place? N> No I'm meeting the Yeti at O'Grady's bar at 8. T> cool. Google for Nacmacfeegle and it leads you to this site, clicking on my profile will show all the nasty subversive posts I've made. This will confirm my status as a subversive, anti-freedom, left wing miscreant. A quick search for O'Grady's bar in the vicinity would give you the rendezvous, and you, me and the Yeti would be linked on some data base somewhere by the dark forces..... Its just a good job we're not plotting to overthrow a super power's government, otherwise we'd already be incarcerated in some unpleasant place, wondering what the fuck we'd done wrong.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Malfunction 0 #31 April 29, 2004 QuotePuhleese, its already happening to you guys too. Yeah, I know it is already starting to happen in the USA, and I am against that, too. I hate it that the government is so skeptical of it own that it thinks it needs to keep tabs ... if I remember right, the government of the US is supposed to work FOR the people, not in fear of them. I know this is skewed towards Americans, so I apologize for those that are reading out of this country. QuoteBeisdes - it would take a big change in the current card simply to fit your entire DNA profile on there - its a MASSIVE amount of data remember. Have you ever seen the movie "GATTICA"? I referenced this earlier. It deals with cloned vs born humans and it shows how control by a government can lead to just about anything. Yes, it is fiction, but this Biometric ID Card is just the beginning. I see a future where nothing is sacred, nobody is unique, and nothing is private. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire
nacmacfeegle 0 #32 April 29, 2004 But you have biometric data on your driving license, how sinister is that? Height, eye colour, ethnicity, etc are all elements of biometric data. Having a jpeg of a thumbprint, or a retina scan is a long way from unauthorised cloning. Enough of the paranoia already!-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Malfunction 0 #33 April 29, 2004 QuoteBut you have biometric data on your driving license, how sinister is that? And I fought the change of driver's liscenses from the laminated version to the new computer-chipped version that has my entire life history on it. There is talk in this state about putting insurance information onto your liscense now too, so they can keep track of payments, eligibility and coverage limits without having to contact anyone. How long do you think it will take to get EVERYTHING onto one little card? QuoteEnough of the paranoia already! I would rather be paranoid than take this kind of crap withough questioning the motives of the people trying to approve it. The moment you stop questioning and stop thinking for yourself is the moment you become a slave. I refuse to be a slave to this government or to any government. damion75 0 #34 April 30, 2004 I have been carrying an ID card day in day out for over ten years now. Ok, there will be more stuff on this new one but I agree with VT1977, as long as they don't expect me to pay for it... no big deal Maybe in 50 years it will all turn out to be some big conspiracy to clone me, but maybe by then I will have decided to clone myself to make my own 4-way team... or maybe I should clone someone who can actually do GOOD RW!!*************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
