Army Wants Howitzers Back from Ski Resorts

Okay, I need to ask (purely out of respect), for anyone serving in the Army: Are five guns going to make that much of a difference?

wow if I would have known all I needed was a ski resort and I could play with one of those. Think of all the fun we could have on weather holds

Its only 5 from those two resorts. Who knows how many of these things they've got spread out all over the nation at ski resorts. Atleast that's what I took from the article, that there's probably 100 laying around that they need back, but the article was only written about those two resorts.

From what I gather, the army wants these particular ones back as they are relatively modern. The others spread around for avalanche control are older model 105mm howitzers.

As an artillery officer in the Army and being a former battery commander of a M-119 firing battery, all I can speculate is that they probably need the parts more than the howitzers themselves. They're not an American made gun and they are crap. We're just stuck with them.
