If that picture had indeed been photoshopped (as he claims), it should be pretty easy to prove it. I mean, he probably has the original somewhere, right?

My first thought on that is that it has been Photoshopped.... I mean, how stupid would someone have to be to write up a sign like that and then have themselves photographed with it??? But then I remember how stupid some people are... and I'm not so sure...

But I'm still leaning towards the Photoshop theory... easy enough to do, and I'd really like to think that no US military person is that much of an asshole... (or is that just naive of me????)

Actualy I'm inclined to agree with you. What Ifind even more funny is that if it was true no one would care, but as soon as someone 'allegedly' makes a joke photo claiming it everyones a bleeding heart.

Actually, that picture (rescued&saved) looks more photoshopped to me...a lot more blurred areas and a lot more sharp edges around words and parts of that board. If the first photo is also doctored, someone did a much better job.

Hmmm....you're right. The a, e, and d are also different than in his name. They're probably both photoshopped. Even so, I think that message is much more likely what he put on there. Even if someone were stupid enough to put a message like what was claimed, I have a hard time believing they'd include their name and rank as well.

The first photo is 113KB with smaller dimensions, and the second photo is only 103KB with larger dimensions... So I would say the blurriness around the words has to do with the quality of the .jpg that was saved and not how well it was touched up.

I have seen a different copy of that first photo that is only 72KB, and as you can see, the lower quality is making the letters blurrier:

I did consider that, but the edges and blurring look a lot more like retouching than the effects of resizing or resampling a picture.
So I'd still say that while I'm not sure about the first one, the second picture is definitely photoshopped.

To me, they look more like the effects of saving a compressed image in .jpg format, but I guess it's all a matter of opinion...

Here is a copy of the first photo posted in this thread that I put into Photoshop and saved with a higher level of compression. The letters are now blurrier.

Considering that this guy was probably in combat getting shot at (he's infantry), I say all the PC types should just have a cup of Shut the F*** Up. Ever heard of freedom of speech? I think it's funny as hell. Pay up? Send him to combat, then court martial him for having a sick sense of humor? Grow up.
