Actually, Air America alleges that it paid its bills and file dsuit in New York. Hopefully, the court will provide a fair and balanced outcome.

Liberal Radio Pulled From Two Stations


NEW YORK - Just two weeks after launching, a new radio network aimed at liberal audiences suffered a setback Wednesday when a dispute with a business partner resulted in the network's signal being pulled from stations in Chicago and Los Angeles.


The owners of Air America Radio filed a lawsuit in New York's Supreme Court against the New York-based MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Inc. after the radio company dropped Air America Radio's signal from its stations WNTD in Chicago and KBLA in Los Angeles.


MultiCultural Radio did not return phone calls for comment, but the Chicago Tribune quoted the company's owner, Arthur Liu, as saying that Air America bounced a check to them on Wednesday. Air America claims in its lawsuit that its payments are up to date.


"MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting's conduct in this matter has been disgraceful," Evan Cohen, the chairman of Air America Radio, said in a statement. "To shut off a broadcast that listeners rely on without warning and in the middle of discussions is the height of irresponsibility and a slap in the face of the media industry."


Air America claims in its lawsuit that MultiCultural Radio removed the network's signal in Chicago without notice and changed the locks on the station's offices.


Air America Radio launched March 31 in five cities around the country and on XM Satellite Radio with a slate of left-leaning talk radio and political satire, headlined by comedians Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo.


The network is still broadcasting in New York, Portland, Ore., and on a different station in Los Angeles, KCAA.

And, once again, the smoking gun is there with the court papers.

Hmmm. According to the Complaint, "Randi Rhodes" is a talk show host. I also thought those commies were a group of zombies. I guess that is proof, seeing that Ozzy's guitarist died 20 years ago in a plane crash.

I'm also fascinated by the alleged dispute resolution allegations. Paragraph 12 of the Complaint states that disputes are to be submitted to arbitration. I don't see any accusations that MultiCultural Radio filed ANY court document.

I can understand why the draftsmanship of the complaint is so poor. To have the complaint prepared within a couple of hours is pretty tough.

Are you kidding. This is liberal radio. They probably had a generic lawsuit ready before they ever went on the air. They just had to add some specifics.

But Arthur Liu --- not funny. He lied to us, he ripped us off and now we’re chasing him down with a pipe wrench. It’s a metaphor.

Here’s what really happened:

This Liu-ser was ripping off our boss Evan Cohen big time (he can’t do that, that’s our job). Evan found out about it and he stopped payment on a check to keep Liu-cifer from ripping him off even more. You can touch Evan for the occasional meal or drinks but a million bucks is crossing the line. And if we ever get low on cash, we can always call Barbra Streisand. Or any of the
Baldwins. Except Stephen.

So we got screwed, Liu’d, and tattooed. How Liu can you get? In Liu of payment. Liu’d and lascivious behavior. These write themselves. What we’re getting at is that we hate him.

So now everyone’s saying we’re going down the dumper in Chicago and Los Angeles, but what they don’t tell you is that we’re still on in Portland. And we OWN Portland. And let’s not forget Riverside and Plattsburgh. And New
York. And streaming on the internet. And XM. And Sirius. Actually we’re fine.

So cool your jets. Air America Radio isn’t dead, we’re in court and we’re going to slam Liu’s head in a car door. Another metaphor. We hope to be back on the air tomorrow or the next day in those markets.

Hmmm. Interesting. These are some pretty bad accusations. Compare these with the allegations that they are willing to put to the Court. Lawyers like me would say, "Those accusations are irrelevant to the injunction." Lawyers like me would also say, "So are the allegations listing the on-air talent."

Heck, I'd put stuff like this in the Complaint and let the Defendant strike it. Unless it would subject me to sanctions, that is.

I think I saw something late today that said they're back on the air, but I didn't read the piece.

Even if they are, they're doomed to failure, and here's why:

In my anectdotal observation, most of the people who listen to talk radio are small-business owners in "Flyover Country", in other words, conservatives.

All they have to do to put Al Frankenstein off the air will simply be inaction (BTW I saw Frankenstein on Howard Stern's late night TV program Tuesday, going on about how GWB is stupid and Halliburton and all that stale crap): simply refuse to do business with the companies who advertise on that "network".

People like Al Frankenstein don't get it about broadcasting. The ugly truth us that "content" is just a polite way of saying "FILLER BETWEEN COMMERCIALS". NPR has a beg-a-thon every Spring, but Tom Leykis' owners don't have any problem getting sponsors, and can charge a premium for the airtime, because people are LISTENING.

I think the "Lib Talk Radio" idea will finally be written off as a colossal failure after enough red ink has been bled. Al Frankenstein won't care though, because he'll get paid, and when he is finally shut down, he'll write another whiny book blaming some goofy conservative conspiracy he's dreamed up, when it'll actually be nothing more than Economics 101.

We recently had a good (non-partisan) news station here recently convert to left wing. I was upset, because the other two decent AM stations were 1-extremely right wing, 2-medium right wing. It was nice to have just news if I wanted it.

What I see here that is SO stereotypical, is that the first two stations advertise for advertising sponsors. This new lefty station immediately started advertising for "donations and support".

It really highlights how different people think they can get stuff done. The new station is bound to fail, even here in the mini-california of minneapolis/stpaul
