Zenister 0 #26 April 12, 2004 QuoteQuotePlease. Both Bush and Kerry are far removed from the problems of the "common person." To say one is more in tune with the problems of common Americans is ridiculous. How many commoners use to own part of a baseball team. If George would've had a different last name would've he gotten into Yale? What, rich people can't have more and less in common with the "common man?" I was referring to the fact that he watches baseball, likes to hunt, practices his faith, owns a dog, etc. sort of depends on how they got to be rich...did they earn it or have it fed to them on a silver spoon?____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. quade 4 #30 April 12, 2004 Quote WTF? colloquial regional pride aside, why is it better to be from one geographical area within America than another?? WTF does this have to do with the issues? Nothing really. However, it's a commonly held belief by most in political circles that you can NOT win without winning "the south". Further, it's generally considered that a candidate is more electable if he's FROM "the south". In this particular case, Texas counts as being farther (maybe even further) south.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
kallend 2,174 #31 April 13, 2004 Which "common men" have been presidents recently? Carter, Reagan and Clinton come to mind.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

PhillyKev 0 #33 April 13, 2004 My question is, how much time does Bush spend at his modest little ranch? As of Aug. 2003 it was 250 days, or 27% of his presidency on vacation. And he just announced that after his speech tonight, he'll be taking a month off at his ranch. It's not like anything important is going on. Yeah, I know, he's still working. But don't you think the president should spend a little more time in Washington at the White House where all the other centers of power are?
JohnRich 4 #34 April 13, 2004 QuoteAs of Aug. 2003 it was 250 days, or 27% of his presidency on vacation... Yeah, I know, he's still working. I love it when you contradict your own premise, within your own message. Just because he's at the ranch, doesn't mean that he is not doing his job just as fully as if he was in the White House. PhillyKev 0 #35 April 13, 2004 QuoteJust because he's at the ranch, doesn't mean that he is not doing his job just as fully as if he was in the White House. Well, he was proudly showing off the nature trail that he built with his own hands. He even posed for pictures holding a hoe. I don't think he was getting much presidential work done while he was spreading mulch (come to think of it, I guess that's the definition of his job). At least with Clinton, when he was working with a hoe, he didn't leave the oval office

Gawain 0 #37 April 13, 2004 His most recent stint at the ranch was to receive Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Personally, I think it's outstanding that he breaks out of the beltway as often as he does.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Kennedy 0 #38 April 13, 2004 Funny, but while he was walking the Ranch, you might mention he was meeting with reps from about a dozen conservation and outdoor groups. That seems like presidential work to me. I thought the environment and conservation were important issues to you Kev. Do you really want him spending even less time on them than he already is? ps - he's also not in the whitehouse because it is undergoing construction and such. Quotewhile he was spreading mulch (come to think of it, I guess that's the definition of his job) that would be spreading fertilizer. mulch is quite different. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
PhillyKev 0 #39 April 13, 2004 You think it's outstanding that he has spent more time away from the Whitehouse in 3 years than any other president before him, even those who served 2 full terms? The beltway happens to be where all the work gets done, not Crawford, Texas.
Kennedy 0 #40 April 13, 2004 So the Camp David accords, signed in Camp David, don't qualify as getting anything done? or the cease fire in northern Ireland that was signed there rather than London. etc etc etc You're not making a strong case for your position, Kev.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
PhillyKev 0 #41 April 13, 2004 Actually, his Press Secretary has stated that his vacation won't be all play and no work. He's planning on making sojourns to 12 cities during his month long vacation. The purpose of these trips? Campaign fund raising of course. Come on now. I don't begrudge the guy some down time. But he's taken more vacation than any other president ever, and he hasn't even served a full term yet. And he doesn't take a few days here and there. This will be his third full month out of office in the past year. That's a little over the top.

Should I spend more time in Newark, NJ, where my production website is located? With modern communication systems is it really necessary to be in Washington? Gawain 0 #43 April 14, 2004 QuoteYou think it's outstanding that he has spent more time away from the Whitehouse in 3 years than any other president before him, even those who served 2 full terms? Yes, I do. That hasn't been all at the ranch either. If anything, it keeps his perspective from being eroded like all the other "government people" who stew and are anchored in DC.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
